A Friday Mountain Monday Drive

Friday was a pretty nice day, so we went out for a drive and some photo taking. It started out nice and sunny, then we were under some overcast skies for a little bit, then in to a scattered sunlight area. We decided to head into the mountains to Cooper Landing and a light meal at the Sunrise Inn. One of the nice things about Sunrise Inn is you have a good view of the mountains.

Still sunny where we pulled over to get this shot, but as you can see looking ahead it seems to be pretty overcast, still were were not going to let a few clouds get in our way of having a nice drive. The snow is pretty much gone from along the road side areas, back in the trees and back home though still a bit of snow left.

The total overcast skies did not last very long at all. This is a drive by shot of the Kenai River and a mountain. Not very many pullouts along the road here but a couple and a couple of camping areas also. Right now the camping areas are still closed. The couple of pullouts offer steep trails to the river.

Destination Mountain View

We made it to the Sunrise Inn. This mountain is pretty much right across the street. I am not sure of the name of the mountain, but one of the reason I wanted to go was to see if the sheep were out and about yet on the mountain. They were.

Big Picture

Even with my tripod and hands free clicker, and 300mm zoom, the distance was still pretty far away, and they are difficult to see, even in the "Big Picture" link. I tried using Lunapic to make a few frame animation to show that they are there.

I know not that great of a quality of an animated gif, but it does show that some of the blobs do move. Okay one more slighty zoomed in slightly blurry picture of the sheep.

#mountainmonday is a tag that was brought to us by @keithboone, to see more cool mountains, his blog would be a good place to start.

What beautiful mountains and great shots, and yes I see the sheep, i am a Kiwi so we know sheep we have so many of them back in NZ

I need a lens doubler or a bigger lens. But still for a first real distant try I am pretty happy with it, I am hoping today's photo's came out for Wednesdays post.

I am thinking about a 1.4 converter to give a bit more reach its cheaper than a Larger lens and may be within my budget, but the longer lens is something I would love as well, Will have to see how my camera fund grows

Yeah, I need to develop a camera fund. So many different lenses, but I also think a converter would be the way for me to go for now also, maybe this coming Christmas, just have to wait and make do.

I put away a small amount each week into an envelope call my camera fund which slowly builds up over time I almost have enough fir the teleconverter or almost at a 3td of the way for a big lens still need to decide which option I go for

Looks like a turned out a nice day out and you captured them mountains in a spectacular way i love looking at snow capped mountains :)

Yes it really did improve sky/cloud wise. We were fortunate that the overcast was just in a little area. It was a nice drive.

Nice to hear that...have a great week :)

Lovely views ang great images.. It's amazing to see the beauty of nature. Followed and upvoted.
