Those fire finches reminds me of the little red-headed finches and maybe they are from the same family.

Family of Estrildidae is large and varied, I was surprised with seeing this bird in among the weavers and mossies.
Another exceptionally hot humid day again today!
Ah! How well do I remember the humidity over there Lady Joan.
Some say my eye lids got stuck together with the sweat and they refused to blink hahaha.
Always so great to see the unexpected in between the normal lol.

Was just thinking about an online friend who is landing in Durban today from America, going up Richards Bay, today 37 deg C up there, lovely hot wet blanket effect. What a change from mid winter to mid summer....
OK I admit I hide away during the heat of the day during summer. Walking the dogs this morning really starting to feel the heat, Woody flopped down after a drink of water under the trees and refused to go further....
Oy Vay, that friend is really going to meet the African sun Lol
Woody seems to be very wise and I think we should both continue to follow his example.

One could not paint a bird as pretty as this Melinda, sometimes when preparing a post a song pops into my head, this was one I have not heard in many years, the little bird reminded me.
Their little spots are really cool. They look like winged strawberries.

Your Firefinch is so darn cute. I love his colors. Also, the Clivia is awesome, I had a huge pot of them for over 7 years and it never bloomed so I finally gave it to my neighbor who has had it for at least 5 years now. Still no blooms. lol
Clivia is out in the garden, sad you did not get to see them flower after having them for such a long time.
Firefinches are so shy I did have to find a spot to hide and photograph quietly, the female in particular takes flight at the slightest sound.

We've only seen a lone firefinch here nervously darting in and out our birdbath. Your little couple are so handsome, love the Christmas suit;)

To photograph them you really have to be hidden and exceptionally quiet, little lady takes flight a lot quicker than the male, he does look grand in his colours Lizelle.
