#silverpornsaturday: My Best Toned Silver Coins #2
Silver coins can tone in the most wonderful colors!
Last week, I showed a toned 1925 Peace Dollar.
Featured in this article is another toned silver coin in my collection that I want to share with you.
1927 Peace Dollar
Look at the vivid red to deep orange hues, gold and rainbow toning around this 1927 Peace Dollar coin! The colors are a striking contrast to Lady Liberty's satin-white face.
But, alas! Toning can also turn ugly and occur in shades of black and brown. A portion around the rim of this coin is doing just that!
I have seen severe cases where the toning has turned into corrosion and caused permanent damage to the surface of the coin.
Naturally toned coins are the result of a long and slow process in which chemicals in the environment affect the surface of the coin. Many of these silver coins toned as a result of the way they were stored for long periods of time.

I started collecting the Old Commemoratives and, I don't remember why, I decided to only look for white coins. As the collection grew, I started collecting the Modern Commemoratives and these are all white. I showed a few toned Morgan Dollars but they are not in my main collections.

I know that your collection is comprised of boxed pieces and graded coins. I loved viewing your raw Peace Dollars as well as the Morgan Dollars and enjoyed seeing even the toning Morgans.
The first coins that I have shown in this short series of articles have extreme toning, the others that will follow are toning that is more commonly seen in coins and silver pieces.

Each Toned coin has it's merits with the quality and eye appeal varies from coin to coin. It can also be a Toning in progress and may not necessarily stop until its sealed away from air, starting out as a light golden may end up a much darker one in a few years later depending how much free Sulphur ions are in the air.
If you want to prevent toning some Numismatists store copper coins with the silver ones as Copper has a higher reactance than silver.

Yes Toned Silver Dollars are Beautiful to look at. I have Owned a few over the Years. Generally speaking I don't own any currently. Your 1927 Peace Dollar does have some really Nice Colors. Ms. Saver @silversaver888
I have 4 Peace Dollars with toning that makes them extra special and uniquely mine! As you may have guessed, I love the Peace Dollars and pick them up over Morgans and slowly fill up a tube at a time.

You are so correct that toning can turn ugly too...
As a teenage coin collector some of my Peace Dollars were kept in the standard flips, and toned kind of bland....
Looking back I wish I had used a capsule, or slabbed these.🤔

I have several toned pieces... but the first two in this series have the prettiest colors. Each toned coin, round, or bar that I have make the piece uniquely mine and one of a kind, despite thousands made of the same silver piece... cool, right?

Don't forget to show us! There is one hand-poured piece of silver that I really want to tone. So I placed it in my window ledge... it's been there since October, and it has not toned much. I will show you that piece sometime.

🤣😂🤣😂! That one you have seems to be a popular brand of coin cleaner among pourers who use that in polishing the silver bars they make, and they come out super shiny! I have not used any cleaner on my coins yet, but I have soaked and swirled most of the US Constitutional coins that I have in hot water with mild soap then rinse and pat dry them with cotton towels... just to remove dirt and grime on the surface of the coin. Coins can be so dirty, the cleaning water always comes out muddy in color!
