What I want for Christmas: 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS- DAY 11

in SteemLeo4 years ago

Oh my!!! This is my 11th article in the #twelvedaysofchristmas series initiated by @silverd510 as a Santa’s wish list for stackers.

The 12 Days of Christmas- DAY 11 and the eleventh precious metals piece on my list, is the gorgeous US Gold Coin featured below.

The 1908 first year issue MS65 graded $20 St Gauden's Double Eagle Gold coin is one of the most sought after and beautiful coins in the world ever produced by the United States Mint!

About this coin...

Following the Coinage Act of 1792, the United States Mint began issuing Gold coins in 1795 with the Turban Head Eagle. This $10 Gold coin was struck by the United States Mint from 1795 until 1804. There are a wide variety of sizes and designs of pre-1933 Gold coins available but the majority of coins produced were the Liberty Head Gold Eagle, the Indian Head Gold Eagle and the iconic Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. In 1850, in response to the Gold Rush in California and the increasing amount of Gold available in the United States, the Double Eagle was introduced. American Gold coins struck before 1933 are some of the most rare, desirable and beautiful in the world. From Liberty Head Gold $1 coins to $10 Indian Gold Eagles and the coveted Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, these coins are a piece of history.

In the early 1900s, President Theodore Roosevelt called for a renaissance in American coinage. Unhappy with the current designs on American coins, he called upon sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens to head the redesign of America’s coins. Out of this renaissance came the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold coin. One of the most sought after and beautiful coins ever produced by the United States Mint, this Double Eagle was minted from 1907 until 1933. The design was later reprised in 1986 when the mint issued the new Gold Eagle bullion coin.

In 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 6102 which forbade the “hoarding of Gold Coin, Gold bullion and Gold certificates within the continental United States.” As a result of this order, the possession of monetary Gold owned by any person, partnership or company was criminalized, Gold coins were pulled out of circulation and almost all Gold was exchanged for paper money. Exceptions were made for collector coins and jewelry. As the Great Depression ravaged the economy, it was believed that “hoarding” Gold stalled economic growth and worsened the economic state of the country. In order to combat this, it was ordered that all Gold be turned into the U.S. Mint to be melted down. The belief was that if Gold could not legally be owned, it could not be redeemed, therefore ending the constraints on the Federal Reserve. Thus, the United States abandoned the Gold standard.

The following year, President Roosevelt signed the Gold Reserve Act of 1934. This act required that all Gold (except for jewelry and collector’s coins) and Gold certificates held by the Federal Reserve be sold to the United States Treasury. The law also changed the nominal price of Gold from $20.67 per troy ounce to $35.00 per troy ounce. Because of this, foreign investors flocked to export their Gold holdings overseas to the United States and the dollar devalued to spark inflation. The increase in the money supply increased real interest rates and encouraged more investments in durable goods. After the Gold Reserve Act, inflation drastically decreased from -9.8 percent to 2.3 percent and has not dropped below -2.1 percent since.

Because of Executive Order 6102, Gold coins produced by the U.S. Mint prior to 1933 are extremely rare. The coins that remain today have withstood the test of time and survived a governmental expropriation of Gold. These coins are a beautiful testament to the art and history of the coins themselves and the United States as a whole.

If you're thinking of giving me this #11 gift for Christmas 😉, the current price for an MS65 1908 St. Gaudens Double Eagle is:

Elegant. Over my $2000 CAD limit but a very nice choice Sis!💝😀🎄🌺

It is amazing to know that you and I have the same limit for one single coin (well mine is in US Dollars of course), which is $2000.00 The next one is over that limit for me... but I think I will make an exception, should I ever decide to get it for myself.

Lovely, lovely cheongsam dress. I was just going to say... why don't they make it in those colors ... and low and behold, I found this on the web and it is called Gold Dragon Evening Cheongsam Dress:

Have a wonderful day, sis @kerrislravenhill, take care 🥰🌺🤙and a million hugs and kisses 🤗❤️

Every one ounce gold coin is over $2000 CAD to me. There's always the Half ounce.
That is so lovely Sis.
My way of thinking it would go nice with my "Walking hazard" 4 inch stiletto Pumps and my basic Fishnet stockings.

I knew it bestie. Think I know your last one as well. Great choice🤗🤗🤗

Yes, I think so you know!!! But I am on the fence about what your 12th pick will be. I am leaning towards something I know you will like for a coin... the other one I am thinking of in your list is a bar. Hmmmm... I wonder what it will be 🤔, but I guess I will know in an hour or so!!! Until then, bestie, a ton of hugs 🤗🤗🤗 !tip

Been a long 12 11 days...

I know, right, @galenkp! This series has been like a release for me... to be able to share the pieces that I really, really want to have in my "collection". I am thankful to @silverd510 for conceptualizing this tag. But I am not a coin collector. I think this is the primary reason why I don't have the coins on this Christmas list. I try to stick to my stacking strategy to the greatest extent that I could fight the temptation of buying a piece outside of my yearly stacking list.
Have a fantastic day, my friend, take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

You too, have a great day and weekend.

There must be some pretty nice Deals going on right now, with the $100 Platinum Eagles... I just looked them up.. A 2008 One Ounce Platinum Eagle, is worth around $1,300 right now... That should come to $13.00 in "Sound Money"after the Reset... But is still a good Deal, since they will have the "Spending Power" of 10,000 of Today's Fiat Debt Note Dollars, within Minutes after the Signing of the Executive Order...
December 19, 2019... 17.3 Hollywood Time...

Who is the lobbyist in Washington DC that will push for the signing of that Executive Order?

I’m sure the Reset to “Sound Money” is a closely guarded secret... No Lobbyists... We only have two choices... “Sound Money” or “Hyper-Inflation... Which do you think we will choose...???

Gold allowed for collectors were in so fine printing that nobody realized it, at the time, and tons of gold coins were melted.

Many of us in the community wished that we came about our interest in stacking and collecting earlier in life. You are lucky to have started earlier. And what an inspiration you must be to your family, @ronaldoavelino! I for one realized that as my stack has grown through the years, a few of my personal virtues and good habits have also been reinforced and strengthened... such as the virtues of patience, perseverance, humility, etc.
Have a lovely day, my friend and take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

When you talk U.S. Gold, the $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold coin is the coin!!😀
Add this to my Santa's list too @silversaver888!!!🤗

I know... it is an absolute favorite of many. We've got to have one!!! Sometimes I ask myself what I am waiting for! I guess I am waiting for someone to give it to me... which will never happen, haha 🤣🤣🤣! Now if I bought it last year, it would have been $100 less... this coin's price depends on supply and demand, and not spot. It is starting to be scarce too. Raw St Gaudens coins are seldom available in the market.
Have a terrific day, @silvertop, and take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

I can see this coin continuing to rise in price, even my non stacker friends know of Saint-Gaudens.... I hope you are ready for Christmas, enjoy your day too!😀

Quite beautiful! I know @silvertop told the story on @silverd510's post, but I'll put it here on yours. He had a buddy he grew up with whose dad would bury the Saint Gauden's gold under the gravel in the 55 gallon aquarium to keep them safe. Talk about hiding in plain sight, lol!😂 . Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful evening my friend!😊🤗

On my first month of stacking, I recall watching a video on YouTube about alternative ways to hide silver and gold in a home. I thought then that it was absurd that stackers go through lengths to hide their silver... until I got to my two-year mark... and I said to myself... "what the heck.. I need to hide these, I need to hide these, and that, and those!!!" Then I moved to a new home and had a fortified, secure safe room built for me and my important stuff. It is so cool to hear stories about how peeps hide and store their precious metals. It just tells us that these are treasures.
How's your holiday prep coming along, my friend? Mine is going nuts! A couple of my friends want us to have "white" Christmas and go up to Lake Tahoe where the snow is, and some just want to stay here and have a "warm" Christmas. Me... it is "Whatever!"... I am flexible!
I appreciate you, @elizabetbit! Have a fabulous day, and take care. 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

Hi @silversaver888! Yes, it can get interesting trying to figure out where to hide all that shiny stuff! As for holiday prep.......it seems like I'm on a wrapping hamster wheel and can't get off because there seems no end to it! And, it's coming down to the wire here soon. I have tonight and tomorrow and that's it. That doesn't take into account anything else that I need to do as well - whew!😳I guess that's half the fun of the season. I am hoping for some snow, but we are too warm right now. If it were cooler, all this rain that is making me think we are going to grow webbed feet, would become white fluffy snowflakes! Ah, a girl can dream now, can't she? Have wonderful evening my friend, and onward with the holiday preparations!😘🤗😇

I actually thought they would been more expensive
