A few Weather vanes

Walking around town here I have noticed quite a few weather vanes of various shapes and sizes, I have never lived in a house with one but I am quite fascinated by them I must admit, so and I thought they may make for an interesting post now that I have shots of a few of them

This first one is on top of a pavilion in Fowler Field behind the City Library

And this one is I believe on top of one of the houses i past on one of my walks, is also of some sort of Bird.

Now this on on top of another house in the area is brighter than most with the brass or brass like colors, Quite a unique and eye-catching one

And after I said that about it being unique I realized the next one I have to share in this post also has some brass touches to it but not as bright as the previous one, this one ha slike the first couple a bird of some type on it

Did you know that making weather vanes is a dying trade , here in Holland there are only a few and they are artists if you ask me. Never owned one myself but love to have one on a gorgeous house one day

I didnt know that thanks for the info, I too would love one on a nice house someday I think they are so cool

If you need one in my area there is only 1 company that call help you with your design

Now I am curious I must see what is available in our area

I know the tradesman here makes them for churches all over the world. He does them in brass really pretty

Thats so cool a pity they are a dying art form,

Weathervanes are a popular New England item, at least when I was growing up. Or perhaps because Great Grandpa was a part-time blacksmith? Although most we made of copper that I remember, not all were and there was an art involved in making them.

Many barns were made with cupolas, to let the heat out of the top and topped with the weathervane, probably as much for looks as function. My father's family has strong ties with the Mennonites in Pennsylvania and it is there that they used them all the time for weather and wind, not having to depend on the television weather forecast (as they didn't have electric. )

Anyway, I digress.

I love all of the wonderful pieces of art topping those roofs. It is a lovely touch to finish off any house, in my opinion. I like all the beautiful cupolas that you show off and my favorite would normally be the horse, but, I love the third one down of the waterbird.

Incidentally, I think they may be made of copper as that was pretty common. But, it wouldn't be the first time I am wrong. ;)

Happy 4th of July!!!

Thanks for being the best Guide ever for #SteemUSA!
