Wednesday Walk - The Challenge introduction

I set myself a challenge last week to get out for a few weekday walks and get shots for each day ot the daily color challenge, and while doing that it gave me an idea for another challenge I would invite you all to join.

Wednesday walk challenge

Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.

Try and get a few shots not just one

You can look for anything in generally or decide on one subject you want to get shots of.

Try to limit yourself to a set distance or time from the starting location, say 5 Blocks, 5 Minutes walk or whatever and see what you can find in that short distance

make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss

Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join it this week please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I wil try and visit them all.

I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules

For my Entry for the challenge for this week I have decided to focus on Water tanks

One thing I notice a lot in the city is all the water tanks on top of the buildings, they are hard to miss they are almost everywhere, but so many these days are focused either only looking ahead thinking about where they are going, or glued to their mobile devices, and they all miss seeing so much in the city , just look around and there is so much to see.

Well in this case its more about looking up than looking around. Take this first shot for example, there’s a water tank which has a style of its own and also in view is the tower of some cool building.

And this second shot which I went for a Sepia style edit has a couple of more of the water tanks, I guess whoever built this one is very safety focused with the railings all around the ladder.

Just down the street a little from the previous shot I saw these three tanks very close together, I know to many maybe most people there just plain old water tanks and nothing special but I think they add a bit of a charm to the city.

Here we see a few more of the water towers, and I went for a mono and a little grungy style with this edit.

And a final shot for this post showing 4 more of the water tanks, I as you can tell am quite taken by seeing all the water tanks in the city, but I am not so sure the people who live in the apartment building on the right of this photo would be so impressed as some of those apartments must only have a clear view of the water tank and not see much else of the city.

And here ends my first entry for my new challenge Wednesday walk.

I hope a few of you may find this an interesting challenge and decide to join in.

Wednesday walk is a great idea :) My friend @lyndsaybowes started #walkwithme awhile back which is similar, the goal is to get people moving and share what you see out there! I'm all for walks :)

Ohh I didnt know there was something similar :(

Thanks for the info

It's not that similar at all, I think you came up with a great idea!! <3 <3 <3

Phew I was worried I had copied your idea am relieved mine is different

Tip!

I'll be joining in next Wednesday! Thanks for the tip too :) xo So sweet!!

GReat looking forward to seeing your entry :)

I like the idea of really looking around when you go for a walk. You'd be amazed at what you miss... The tank photos are a flashback to the days when water supplies were not all that reliable which could happen again...

Thanks :) I hope a few people join in on the challenge will be cool to see walks around the world

I think the main reason for them s to have good pressure for the water in high rise buildings

That's more than interesting! You rarely or never see such things in my town.

I had never seen them like htis till Imoved here

They must have had a very good reason to make them.

Yes I would say so, I understand on high buildings the water pressure would be so weak if they did not have these tanks

You mean they are still in use?

Wow..these are all marvelous shots! I love the monochrome and sepia tone in them! So fitting!

Thanks kindly i try to mix up styles of editing in my feed to keep it somewhat interesting

An early morning walk or a late evening one is very refreshing. May be soon I will put up for this challenge 😊

Cool would love to see your area through this challenge :)

I like the last one the best. I’m often looking at the skyline. There are so many interesting details on rooftops. Nice post.

Thanks for your visit, its a shame so many are so busy these days they never look around or up and miss what we see

Definitely a great challenge! I am always happy to see anyone encouraging people to get out and move a bit. :) It is important to connect to our surroundings, as well. As you have demonstrated with the water towers, there are all kinds of details you miss when you are solely focused on getting from point A to point B. I love the sepia tone with the towers. It just seems to fit!

Thanks, I am a greta walker especially since my knees and running do not go well, but on a nice day its not uncommon for me to walk between 5 and 10 miles so thats my form of exercise and since i generally always carry my camera a source for shots

Winter slowedme down but hopefully its going to warm up and I will be out and about more

Exercise definitely takes many shapes, and walking is a great one! Especially to do that many miles. :) This winter was quite brutal, so hopefully the weather has shifted for good now so you can get back in your routine.

We had a couple of days last week which the weather was greta got over 10 miles walking in both days this week is cool again but not as bad as it has been

Congratz, your post has been resteemed and, who knows, will maybe appear in the next edition of the #dailyspotlights (Click on my face if you want to know more about me...)
Please check the new rules of the Daily Spotlights!

Thanks for putting out this #wednesdaywalk challenge @tattoodjay Yes if you are on a high floor you can see these water tanks all over the roof tops. I believe one company makes these tanks for many many years.

From one of the high lookouts ESB or the Rock you can see them everywhere for sure

I didnt know about one company makingmost of them I must do some research

Great idea! Exercise AND photography practice!
The water tanks are really interesting! Ive never seen them set up like that. Here, there is generally one huge water tower that services a whole town.

have seen those huge ones in some cities but here in NY its all these individual ones it seems

I find my photo walks fun and exercise so it works well for me
