Unexpected Guest
The house stank of burnt food and garbage overflowed from a stained garbage can by the sink.
Silas chewed a stick while sitting at the table littered with dirty plates and glasses corroded with dried on milk and juices. He tapped a pen thoughtfully on his forehead while meditating what to add to his growing New Year's resolution list. In a burst of inspiration he carefully scratched dish soap, garbage bags, air freshener and shampoo on a small paper pad.
Silas ran his tobacco stained fingers through greasy, unkempt hair desperately in need of a haircut. He felt oily residue on his hands, and rubbing the fingers together decided the shower should happen pretty soon, but he had to get to the store since his hair was too long to shampoo with just bar soap now.
His phone jangled rudely
on the wall. He walked to it, the shoes crunching over empty bags of food and he picked the hand set up from its cradle.
"ello?" he answered, while using his shoe toe to push a black bean can toward the back door.
"Pick me up at the train station Silas."
Silas blanched white as he glanced around the room.
"SILAS? Do you hear me? It's cold here!"
"Ma??"

I know that my freewrites have been sporadic for some time, but I will always try to remain as active as I physically can despite migraines. The healing with my hip is going pretty well followimg surgery, although physical therapy gave me a nice big bruise Wednesday in order to reduce the severe tightness in my upper thigh resultant to the labral tear correction part of surgery.
I promise you all that I am trying to get around and comment on your freewrites and read as often as I can. My intention is to renew the Poetry Digest this month, too.

I hope the migraine goes away eventually. May I know what happened to your hip that you needed surgery? Thanks for your effort for still trying to post somehow. I hope you recover very soon...
Thank you for your welcome and comment. had hip arthoscopy for Femoroacetabular Impingement. The condition created severe sciatica pain for a couple decades. I had a coworker who referred me to a good surgeon. They shaved bone on the hip and femoral head and sewed the torn labrum. It will be a six month healing I am told for total recovery. Happy Weekend.
