Acehnese Tradition For Baby: Ground-Dropping Ceremony

Introduction

Ground-dropping ceremony (Peutron Aneuk) is a ceremony to step on the first land for the baby. Therefore, it is sometimes called a ground-breaking ceremony. Implementation is done simultaneously with the naming ceremony and aqīqah. Peutron Aneuk is bringing the baby down to the ground with a ceremony or ritual performed by the people of Aceh with different practices. The meaning of the term pineon aneuk_ is to lower the baby from the house to the ground, because in general the house of the people of Aceh was a stage house or often referred to now as the Aceh house.

Aim

The further purpose of this ceremony is a symbolization to introduce the community environment to the child. Peutroen aneuk ceremony is a ceremony performed when the baby is 44 days old. At the ceremony the baby sets the ground for the first time and introduces the baby environment to the community. The ceremony includes several good stages of equipment, governance and cultural values embodied in the ceremony.

Procedures

At the ceremony held the baby carried by the cleric, if the boy who carry it is a male religious figure, whereas if the girl carrying it is also a female religious leader. One of the participants waved the child in a scholar's arms, and the cleric held the sword on the right, slowly heading for the stairs. While other invitations come to prepare for the event. Before the baby goes down to the ground is usually recited barzanjī (the book that contains history and shalawat to the Prophet Muhammad) or played Islamic songs or salawat. After the show, then the child was taken down the ground. Furthermore, when the cleric held the baby, he stepped on the first step, another stood by the cleric, then split the coconut on the umbrella. The coconut palm, partly thrown into the left-hand page, and part thrown into the right-hand page. The cleric continued down the courtyard quickly, then he chopped the banana tree and the planted sugarcane tree with the sword. For girls the event of chopping banana and sugar cane stalks is not done. Then the cleric sent the baby down on the ground for a moment. After that he picked up again and went to the meunasah (mosque) followed by the entourage. They go around the mosque or the good places, and then face the baby with water mosque. Soon they returned home, and handed the baby to his mother.

Conclusion

The ceremony contains many symbols and symbols that have certain meanings. Babies should be lowered by a pious seroang, so that someday children become pious, respected, and domiciled in society as well as scholars. Yellow clothing and umbrellas symbolize the descendants of the nobility. Formerly not just anyone can wear that color, but at the moment now already many others wear it. The influence of Islam exists even though there is no basis for this tradition, but the Islamic song and salawat are evidence that it is influenced by Islamic values. Then the tradition of peutron aneuk also involves the village priest in the hope that the adult child will be diligent in worship, high in his knowledge and do good deeds like the village priest. It should be noted that in Aceh society the mosque (meunasah) becomes a religious, social and cultural symbol as well.
