Aqiqah: Obligations of Parents For Their Children

Introduction
Aqiqah (Arabic: عقيقة) is animal sacrifice in Islamic sharia, as a form of Muslim gratitude towards Allah SWT. about the baby being born. Aqiqah's law in the strongest opinion is sunnah muakkadah (sunnah is strengthened), and this is the opinion of the jumhur (majority) of scholars according to the hadith.
Furthermore Aqiqah understanding can be concluded is: animals slaughtered in connection with the birth of a child, both men and women on the seventh day since his birth with the sole purpose of seeking Allah approval.

The Reason
Each Shari'a must have a proposition that must be held, that is as a guide in doing something. Below I mention the two sayings of Prophet Muhammad, as the proposition for aqiqah.
Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad;
which means “Every child born to his aqiqah was slain on the seventh day, and on that day he was named and shaved of his hair." (Hadith Ahmad, Abu Daud, Tirmidhi, Nasa'I, Ibn Majah, Baihaqi and Hakim).Hadith narrated by Abu Daud and Nasai
Meaning “Whosoever of you wishes to worship about his son should be aqiqah for the boys of two goats of the same age and for the daughter of a goat”.
Tools peusijuek, namely seeking blessing through the symbols of nature. Tradition of Acehnese people. Everything must be cold (Peusijuek).
Aqiqah Procedures
- Aqiqah is done after the baby is born especially on the seventh day with a count including the day of birth. For example, the birth of a baby on Friday is disqualified aqiqahnya on Thursday;
- Types of Animals for aqiqah are goats that are 2 years old. For boys is recommended 2 goats, while for girls 1 goat.
- Intent as aqiqah time of slaughter.
- Goat meat should be cooked first, and it is not allowed to give it raw.
- Bone can be crushed when cooked.
- Aqiqah is mainly charged to the parents of the child, but may also be done by other families (grandfather and so on)
Cool the goat (Peusijuek).
Conclusion and Faith
Some of the wisdom behind this aqiqah shari'ah, including:
- Enliven the sunnah of the Prophet
- Taqarrub (self approach) to God and thanks to Him
- Freeing infant children from pawnshops
- The cause of child's goodness, growth, safety, long life, and avoid the devil's disturbance.
- Aqiqah strengthens ukhuwah (brotherhood) among the people.
- Aqiqah as a means of showing a sense of joy in implementing Islamic shari'ah & increasing beliefs of believers who will multiply the people of the Prophet Muhammad on the Day of Resurrection
Hold the goat with all your strength, so as not to fight.
Goats for aqiqah are being slaughtered.
