Ulee Lheue port and piece its history

This port is crosswalks passengers from Banda Aceh to Sabang on We island (Pulau Weh), located in the village of Ulee Lheue, Meraxa, Banda Aceh.

After the earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004, the condition of Ulee Lheue port badly damaged, none of the remaining buildings onshore facilities. When the disaster, these ports are under construction of some new buildings, after inaugurated in 2003.

Due to the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the infrastructure Ulee Lheue port, then all the activities transferred to Malahayati port in Krueng Raya bay, Aceh Besar, also damaged by the tsunami, but still may operate, the pier can be used for a lean ship.

Ulee Lheue port is not as busy as it is today, in the past only one ferry and a fast ship to serve passengers from Banda Aceh and Sabang island and vice versa. There is one another ship that leans on these ports is the floating (Apung diesel).

Floating ship is Ship Diesel Power Plant, with a weight of 2,600 tons, a length of 63 meters and width of 19 meters, delivering electricity by 10 megawatts to the people of Banda Aceh and its surroundings. Tsunami so powerful currents had dragged the ship's diesel power plants as far as five kilometers, and stranded on housing society in the village of Blang Cut Punge, Banda Aceh. This vessel was now the icon tsunami Aceh.

Long before it was in the 19-20 centuries, in the location of this port was used by the Dutch Government as Aceh in the colony, they knew him by Olehleh. The results of the ground in Aceh, especially spices, transported from the port of Ulee Lheue, to port of Sabang on Weh Island (Pulau Weh), and rivals trafficked out of the country, especially European countries.
