Soon the cherry trees will be blooming.

Here’s to hoping it’s a nice long bloom like two years ago.

Tomorrow marks eight years since the tsunami swept across northeastern Japan. It’s hard to believe how time moves and things carry on.

Today I fed a goat and played at a park with my daughter, played soccer and cooked dinner with my son, spent some quality time with my wife, and the weather was fabulous. What more could I ask for?

Not a thing.

Sounds like the perfect day! The cherry blossoms are beautiful. A couple of those activities would be awesome, you managed to get them in all in the same day. What did you and your son cook?

We made sautéed garlic turnips, and a bacon and eggplant tomato pasta. My son peeled and cut the turnips, and also helped peel the garlic and cut the eggplant and bacon as well. Then I let him melt the butter and add ingredients to the pan. He wanted to do more, but being only six, and needing to stand on a chair to work, i didn’t want to let him get to close to the stove in case he lost his balance or something. He showed signs of learning/understanding that he can’t do everything yet.

Wow that is awesome that he can do all that at 6. My grandson is 6 and he doesn't know a thing about helping to cook. I'd be scared to death of giving him a knife. Now give him something electronic and he's good, lol. You are teaching him valuable skills and starting him out right! And the meal sounds delicious!

It’s pretty scary giving him a knife. I’m still not comfortable with it and tend to really hover over him, but since he’s expressed interest, I don’t want to just tell him he’s too young and lose the opportunity to teach him something that’s not only useful, but also something that I like doing too.

It’s one of those things, though, what I’d like him to do as far as helping around the house he doesn’t do and has no interest in. Or, if he does it, it’s always done half-assed and with complaint. With cooking, I originally preferred that he didn’t help because it was much easier that way, but I’ve started to figure out tasks he can do at the kitchen table while I’m working at the counter and things are getting smoother.

That actually sounds like the perfect day. Cheers.

It was. And there were very few sibling fights between my kids as well, which made it all that much better;-)
