목관악기 중 가장 낮은 저음을 연주하는 바순은 밑을 향해 소리를 내는 다른 목관악기와 달리 소리가 나는 벨 부분이 하늘을 향해 있다. 그리고 악기의 덩치와 높이도 가장 크다. 하지만 이미지와 달리 굉장히 섬세한 소리를 만들어내는데 중저음뿐만 아니라 고음도 매력적이다. 그 이유는 바순이 겹리드를 사용하기 때문이다.
