#freewrite :: 5 minute freewrite - Prompt: coercion
Coercion doesn't sound like a word describing something nice, isn't it? True enough, a quick search online affirms that. According to the Cambridge Dictionary: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/coercion:
Hmm... "the use of force to persuade someone to do something that they are unwilling to do". I think the few times that I heard this word, it was in the news, describing some political tension somewhere which didn't sound at all good.
I didn't know what it means then and didn't really bother to look up the meaning until now but even hearing the word being spoken, I knew it wouldn't stand for something pleasant and now that I know the meaning, I was right.
I like peace and I hate conflict. I would rather persuade or convince or coaxing someone to do something civilly, at their own will rather than by force, if possible, though of course, as much as we hope that to be the case, it may not go that way.
Coercion can lead to fights and war. But I guess, sometimes coercion is needed in certain situations. Perhaps, when catching a villain? I guess that is a way to see the word in a positive light?

I believe it is manipulating and it is what people young and old do to get what they want. The screaming 2 year old on the street, the teenager, drama queen, the one who is playing with your feelings of guilt (because of the colour of your skin, the car you drive, the fact you are a mother or woman and should emphasize and take care of..).
Politician are not the only ones. They, just like kings, Queens, church leaders and teachers think people are too stupid to question, think by themselves and that is a good base to work on.
