#freewrite :: 5 minute freewrite - Prompt: poetry reading
Poetry is one of the most beautiful form of art. Poetry writing is an artistic expression of the poet. One may or may not understand what was written but to the poet, it could mean something really deep or maybe not.
Poetry reading, on the other hand can be very analytical. In school, it was one of my most feared subjects. We would be expected to read a poetry with passion, with different intonation to our voices and to be able to understand what the poetry was about. It was worse when we were asked to review and pen down what we understand from the poetry reading. Most times, as a kid, we would take the words literally as they are, which may not be what the words truly mean.
Personally, I like some poetry, the kind that I can understand, the kind that I can feel and connect to. But when a poetry is written in such a way that only the poet understands and some readers possibly could pretend to understand, that becomes a challenge to the rest who could not pretend, no matter how.
But poetry is also up to an individual's interpretation. One may read and understand the poetry differently based on what they think which could be different from what the poet was thinking when they wrote the poem. Another person reading the poetry could read the words as something else.
And I guess, it is similar to songs. Songs are poetrys too. When we sing a song, we are essentially singing a poem. Some songs can be really cryptic while most songs are easily connected to. Songs, in my opinion are easier to connect to, when tune works hand in hand with the words. I enjoy this kind of poetry reading.
