I had the same thing: an obstructing stone that required treatment. I drank a contrast (iodine, if I recall correctly) and it showed up on an X-Ray. Unfortunately, the urologist was a quack. He was a good technician and acted friendly, but his aftercare was terrible. I now see a urologist who specializes in prevention. He found that I excreted too much calcium using a routine test. I now take a medication to reduce it to prevent future stones and osteoporosis.
