TONGUE TWISTERS

Your child will have fun with tongue twisters at a time when her language skills are exploding!

Learning Skills: Cognitive/thinking skills, Coordination, Language and vocabulary development, Listening skills, Problem solving

Materials: Book of simple tongue twisters

What to Do:

  1. Go to a library or bookstore and find a book of simple tongue twisters that suits your child’s language level.
  2. Read one of the tongue twisters several times, speaking slowly. You might try “A noisy noise annoys an oyster” or “She sells seashells down by the seashore.”
  3. Have your child try to say it with you.
  4. Then have her try to say it by herself. Encourage her to say the whole thing without making any mistakes.
  5. Laugh with her if she makes funny mistakes. It’s all in fun!

Variation: Work together to make up your own tongue twisters.

Caution: Select manageable twisters so your child doesn’t become frustrated or upset.
