That’s true in many cases today. The best way to avoid these kind of situations is not having anything to spare or just saying “I’m poor”. This way, you actually realize who really loves you for who you are and not for what you have. Mark, his brother, obviously loves him and has faith in him for who he is.

That’s really surprising to me. They actually go through this preliminary marriage rites process without Jim being present? They obviously don’t know each other well. Would you really gamble with your life this way? I’m talking about both sides, bride and groom. I guess that’s the tradition and in each country it happens to be different even allowing polygamy. Fortunately, in this case, it all paid out.
Six years later, Jim and Ijeh had three beautiful children: Anna, James and John.

Well to my surprise it turned out to be a fairytale story. They obviously were meant for each other and Jim did for love of his life anything, even left everything he had for her and moved to literally abandoned place and all this just for her to get better. At the end his wife’s sickness was the best thing that happened to them. They are one big happy family.

You have left me the best comment ever. Yes, some places in Nigeria still allow polygamy. In fact traditionally, there is no limit placed on how many wives a man can take. Fortunately, most people from around my part of the country are Christians and as such you would seldom encounter a polygamous family these days around those parts.
To Ijeh, there was no gamble. She had her eyes set on Jim for the longest time and she was fulfilled just to be near him. It was Jim who took the gamble and that was probably because he could not afford to take the wife by himself because he was poor and getting older too. She was young and had experienced the very worst of human beings so he figured, how bad could it get. Luckily for him it turned out way better than he had expected and it became a landmark event in his otherwise uneventful life.
I didn't set out to write a fairy tale. It is just the way it turned out to be.
