An Expedition to Fairy Meadows & Nanga Paarbat a.k.a The Killer Mountains - Part 2

in #adv6 years ago (edited)

After a thrilling, adventurous trekking day, the very next morning we all woke up to a serene view of the magnificent Nanga Parbat, famously know as the Killer Mountain. The plan was to trek all the way to the base camp of Nanga Parbat, Beyal camp. The history states that it's known as the Killer Mountain because it's the 9th highest mountain peak in the world. Nanga Parbaat means "Naked Mountain" and it's 8126m high above seas level. Nanga Parbat has the death rate of 22.6% of the mountain climbers attempting to climb this peak.

This was perhaps the most adventurous, thrilling experiences of my life. We started our trek through the dense, rough and rocky forests of the villages near Fairy Meadows. The feeling was out of this world! There were light green, lush meadows with farm animals roaming around the villages, there was a water stream flowing through the village and it started drizzling. After sometime, a rainbow was formed across the mountains in front of us.

As it began to rain faster, the grass became slippery and the trek ahead became steeper as we were nearing Beyal camp, the base camp of Nanga Parbat. And the wind became colder and colder as we neared the base camp. As we reached Beyal camp, people in the group engraved Pakistan flag, to create a success story, one of the biggest achievements for some people. It was one of the most self satisfying and exhilarating experiences of my life.

After staying there for about 15mins we had to head back since it was almost evening time. On the way back, we stopped to play cricket with the local kids there, who had created a rough cricket pitch to keep themselves entertained.

There were cottages that had to be abandoned because all these cottages are made from wood and after certain number of year the structure becomes very weak so some of the cottages are left as they are.

When we all reached back to Fairy Meadows it was still raining and it had gotten too cold, so we had a small born fire and went to sleep early after the great accomplishment, feeling fulfilled.
