About Aergo, the next-level blockchain platform

Aergo project is representing the 4th generation of blockchains, aiming to be used by enterprises and businesses. The Core of Aergo is Coinstack project which is actively used by 20+ corporations with 25+ millions of users around the world. Coinstack was developed by Blocko. We’ll discuss Blocko in our “Investors and Partners” section.

Information to contemplation: Coinstack has more users than Ethereum.

Technically, Aergo has successfully implemented some principles and technologies and the first implementation is Aergochain - own blockchain network. Aergochain allows developers to build side-chains - blockchains which are connected to the main chain but operating within its own ecosystem. Sidechains have more privacy and transaction throughput but have less trust than the main chain.

Contrary, the main chain is developed to serve as the most trustable permissionless chain using Deterministic Delegated Proof-of-Stake for reaching consensus.

As for me, this development is quite interesting, as privacy and confidentiality have a huge demand among enterprises-related solutions.

Aergo also developed own SQL-based smart-contracts programming language called AERGOCHAIN.

For easier and more intuitive interoperability with Aergochain, the team decided to develop Aergohub. Aergohub is the interface to the underlying blockchain. Hub allows developers to change the repository of the project, which can be either private or public. In other words, this is a native GitHub.

In some cases, when developers need to test the application or run the side-chain, they can purchase some additional computing power on the Aergo market.

For me it’s crucial to know the development plans of the project. According to the whitepaper and information on the website, we’ll be able to use Testnet after the presentation on Q4 2018. The Main network will be rolled out in the first quarter of the next year. Aergohub and Aergomarketplace will be available for use in the third quarter of 2019.

Team

The team is experienced, people have a strong background in the sphere, a lot of team members were the employees of Blocko, they were working together for some time which is also a good sign. The Board of Aergo is consisting of 3 people. The person I liked the most is Phil Zamani, we have seen this intellectual man on the Aergo’s presentation in Seoul, South Korea and in the interview with ICO Drops, which created a lot of positive impressions about him.

Phil has more than 20 years of running the open source projects connected to cloud computing and distributed systems.

The other two people in The Aergo Board are Hun Young Park and Roderik van der Graaf, they both are the experts in their fields.

Hun Young Park has 12 years of experience in Relational DBMS development, Roderik spent more than 13 years trading derivatives and 7 years in investing (VC / private equity).

Tech team includes Blocko’s developers (> 25 people) and own development team with the majority of Korean developers having more than 31 years of development Relational DBMS combined. Also, the tech team has one Solidity and blockchain expert, and developer with 19+ years of experience - Bernardino Ramos.

Technology use cases

According to the official resources, Aergo could be used in the supply chain development, government voting, e-document managing, and as the e-contract solution.

Taking into the account the fact that Aergo’s smart-contracts are written in SQL, not Solidity, the project could serve as the base platform for a lot of decentralized applications.
