More Light More Money
Steemit Inc. Isn't the only entity looking for alternative sources of funds in these hard times. You and I are too. Unless you have a full time job, or you're rich and don't need it, then you should probably be seeking other ways of bringing in that extra income. If anything, it will reduce your reliance on Steem as a living.
I want to share one way I make some extra pennies here and there with you today. Many of you are probably aware of it, and probably do it too. The thing is, you can actually do it here on Steem as well. I have seen some content creators on here doing it.
I'm talking about Affiliate Marketing.
I just dropped another video on my YouTube channel that was repurposed from a DTube video from last winter. It has the usual DTube branding and the "hey DTube!" opening as usual.
The video talks about how I manage to get good light for my videos even in a dark city like London in winter. I talk about window light, artificial light, and a fast prime lens. The lens uses an adapter to attach to my digital camera since it's a vintage lens. The adapter is no ordinary one though - it contains a lens of its own that boosts the amount of light going into the camera.

In the description of the video, I have a link to the particular adapter on Amazon for anyone wanting to get one. The thing is, if that person clicks the link and buys said product, Amazon sends me something like 2% of the cost of what they bought. That is because I am an Amazon affiliate, and the commissions are for directing traffic to their website.
The costumer (the person that clicked and purchased a product) is not affected in any way. The cost of the item is the same. Amazon pays me from their own profits. Win-win-win.
Amazon is not the only company for whom you can be an affiliate. There are thousands, but I like Amazon's simplicity, and the fact that they sell everything. I'm also an affiliate of Apple but I've never made a single penny with that, ever.
The only other thing with Affiliate Marketing that requires a bit of work is this. It needs traffic to be really viable, which we don't quite have here yet. In the absence of traffic, you need to be hyper niched, and your audience really need to trust your judgement or feel they get sufficient value from your content to warrant the support - even though, in theory, it costs them nothing.

Affiliate Marketing is the game and if your damn good at it, makes you thousands. But it takes so much time, studying, trials and errors to master it! However, love the journey☺️! Anyhow, just dropped by to say that in travel industry aff marketing is huge! 👌🏻💪🏼

I can imagine. All those companies involved; airlines, booking.com, hotels etc. Even travel gear.
People sometimes see that a link immediately thinks we are persuading them to do something. And it's a normal matter to share your friend's link fo the trusted site. Maybe it is a good way to leave a link at every post? Have a nice day!

It depends on your audience. I make it clear that it's an affiliate link. Sometimes I even explain what it is.

Thanks for the tip Ade. I have been hearing about aflliate marketing but I have never taken the time to research on it. Now that I am looking for other means of making money online, I think I will give this a try. Yeah, we don't have that much traffic on steem but I can share my content on other platforms and drive traffic to my own page
