The Bleaching Problem

in #africa5 years ago

Love the skin you are in

It is not a new thing for people with melanin in their skin to feel like they are ugly or less than their fairer counterparts. This is a byproduct of the hundreds of years spent teaching us that White is better and being black is a burden. People have been bleaching their skin for decades now in attempts to become more WHITE. It is a serious sign of an identity crisis happening within the Black culture. Recently social media personality Black Chyna has released a skin bleaching product geared towards black women who want to lighten their complexion. It is sad that this type of business even exists but it symbolized the mental slavery and trauma that has been but on the melinated people around the world. Self loathing is unhealthy and needs to be addressed within our community or we will lose people to a feeling of inadequacy and depression.

Show your kids how black is beautiful and teach them about how the media portrays an imaginary biased world that is not true to reality. It takes for them to know they are loved to understand that their skin color is not the problem. We must teach our kids their identity and teach them to idnetify with AFRICANS instead od believing the european narrative of starving, ugly, violent, and inept people.
