Ghana music industry in 2017 has been one of the successful years — if not the best, for relatively new talents — it has seen these acts launched their music career into the mainstream industry.

The likes of Kuami Eugene, Kidi, Kurl Songx, Ebony, eShun and many others, will go into the history books; with regards Ghana music in 2017.

The aforementioned acts have made our list of relatively new crop of music talents who are giving the already-established musicians some level of competition. You can call them the new faces of Ghana music and you may not be far from right.

Check them out!

  1. EBONY

She prefers being called the “90s Bad Gyal” — Ebony, arguably, surpasses all among the list of Ghana’s new crop of musicians who are giving already-established ones some level of competition. Her sensual-themed lyrics characterised by pun and metaphors has earned her a place on the playlists and hearts of many music lovers. Notwithstanding her raunchy style of public appearance, she continues to give all, songs to make people bisect and dissect extentively. The RuffTown Records act boasts of songs like ‘Poison’, ‘Sponsor’, ‘Date Ur Fada’, ‘Dancefloor’, ‘Scream’, ‘Ediot’, ‘Poison’, ‘Kupe’. She has worked with the likes of Shatta Wale, Pauli-B, rappers Okyeame Kwame and Eno, as well as Kurl Songx etc. on different projects.

  2. KIDI

Kidi is among the new breed of acts Ghana can boast of. After winning MTN Hitmaker Season 5 in 2015, he has continued to release masterpieces. His songs ‘Say You Love Me’ and ‘Odo’ are one of the finest tunes enjoying massive airplay in Ghana now. The young and fine songwriter also featured Nigeria’s Davido and Mayorkun on the remix version to ‘Odo’. Songs like ‘Naadu’ featuring BET Awards nominee MzVee, ‘Awurama’, by the musician who doubles as a producer also enjoyed massive airplay when released last year. Kidi is one of the new Ghanaian music acts who are making strides in the industry, and are giving the already-established acts some competition.

  3. KUAMI EUGENE

The history of Ghana music in 2017 cannot be written without another young gem Kuami Eugene real name Eugene Marfo — another contestant at the MTN Hitmaker season 5 which saw Kurl Songx (then Kelvin) emerged victor. Signed to Lynx Entertainment (owned by music producer Richie), Kuami emerged winner of VGMAs 2016 Unsung category. The talented singer continues to churn out fine records including ‘Hiribaba’, ‘Angela’, ‘Ebeyeyie’, ‘Fadama Boy’, ‘Boom Bang Bang’, ‘Show Dem’ and more. Kuami Eugene makes our list following an outstanding input in Ghana’s music industry this year, as a young act.

  4. KURL SONGX

Kurl Songx, who, until re-branding after winning the MTN Hitmaker season 5 was Kelvin makes our list following a successful 2017. His song ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ which featured celebrated Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, was the talk of town when released in August 2017. Despite the brouhaha surrounding some choice of words by Sarkodie in the song, it was generally a fine record from the camp of Highly Spiritual Records. His song ‘Whistle’ and latest ‘Feeling’ continues to enjoy massive audience appeal.

  5. eSHUN
    eShun.jpg
eShun takes the last place for our list. The singer and songwriter has been identified by many industry experts as of the faces of pure Ghanaian highlife. With a blend of pop, to cover a wider audience across the continent and Diaspora, eShun continues to bring out fine records — ‘New Girl’, ‘FOReVeR’, ‘Didadi’, ‘Afihyiapa’, ‘Fakye’, ‘Simple as ABC’, ‘Meye’ and others are some of the tunes good music lovers can’t go without. She has graced some of the high profile events in the country this year. Real name Ethel Esi Eshun, her fine works has earned her a place on United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) new project.
