CASTRATION OF APRICOTS

in #agriculture6 years ago

Castration in plants is the removal of immature anthers in order to prevent possible self-pollination. Castration is a necessary technique for hybridizing plants capable of self-pollination.

Normally, the anthers are removed with tweezers, special needles and or small scissors. Plants are castrated, as a rule , in the bud stage one or two days before the pollen and stigma of the plants are ready for pollination.

In this video , you can see that already pollinated flowers by bees were fully opened and they were removed completely as the unopened buds were castrated with tweezers. The aim was to ready the APRICOT trees for hand pollination the next day.
