ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE A.I. AND MACHINE LEARNING TECHNOLOGY AT A GLANCE

THE FUTURE IS HERE, IS TIME TICKING DOWN TO MACHINE SELF AWARENESS?

From runaway A.I. computer programs, to smart robots that can have intelligent conversations. Artificial intelligence has become more a reality to the masses than ever before. What seemed like something fictional from the minds of Science fiction filmmakers and writers, is not too far from engulfing our everyday lives. I will lightly explore some of the major players involved, the potential of the technology, the technology itself, and the possible downside.

MAJOR TECH COMPANIES HAVE BEEN ADOPTING A.I.

For a few years now, companies have been adopting to the Artificial intelligence, and machine learning trend. Tech companies like Facebook , and Google have been buying up A.I. related coding startups and bringing them to a new level. Spending tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars on research and development. It's one of the largest scale races to be the first to master this area of tech. To the winner will be all the spoils, which some believe could be on a global scale.

WHY IS A.I. SO IMPORTANT

Just think what this technology has done, and what potential it has for the future. It has the potential to disrupt every industry, from health care, to finance, if it hasn't already done so. A.I. has already saved businesses and individuals both time and money, and will continue to improve on every aspect of operations. The tech will advance, and learn faster than any human can. It is undoubtedly the future, as the internet was to computers. Businesses not looking to adapt it to their daily affairs, will undoubtedly be left behind.

WHATS INVOLVED

This area of technology requires a great understanding of electronics and programming languages. Chip makers, like Intel are incorporating machine learning into their silicon tech. Google has been in Dev. mode on software and hardware to support a wide array of applications, From smart cars driving themselves, to more accurate search results on their search engine. Robotics engineers having been working alongside programmers to construct human-like robots. Such as Sophia for example, a life-like robot who can have an intelligent conversation with you, and posesses all the facial emotions to go along with it. It's somewhat alarming to think that this technology is in full throttle and getting more advanced everyday. But not diving head first into this tech seems to be the wrong way to go, right?

SHOULD THERE BE REASON FOR ALARM?

This is a very interesting topic, especially since we are at the beginning stages of this tech at the present moment in time. You might remember the film series, Terminator. Which is about A.I. machines and computer systems became self aware and unleashed a wave of destruction on the human race that created them. Some have warned on the dangers of A.I. and machine learning as being a detriment to the human consciousness. Who knows the extent of good or bad this technology can bring. I know that it probably wouldn't be a good thing for an intelligent machine to be in control of operational nuclear missle silos.

CONCLUSION

A better world, or a faster way to destruction? It's hard to imagine all the aspects of what A.I. can bring to the table. There is a possible use case for every aspect of life. From economics to military, it will change the world as we know it. There are many big conglomerates in this game as of now, making a big difference. As technology itself keeps leaping forward every 18 months(Moore's Law), machines, and learning algorithms are getting supercharged. What kind of real world changes will occur, and where will A.I. be in the next 18 months? Will these smart machines become self aware?
