Greetings once again to my readers. Let’s continue our talk on WAR AGAINST OBESITY…

MEASUREMENT OF OBESITY
“The most common way of measuring Obesity is by the use of Body Mass Index (BMI). For adults, BMI is your weight in Kilogram (kg) divided by the square of your height in metres (m2)”. If your weight is 64kg and your height is 1.7m, your BMI is:
BMI = (Weight in kg / Square of height in Metres) = 64kg/(1.7)2 = 22.1kg/m2
The BMI classification established by World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1997 and published in 2000 is shown in the table below.

| Less than 18.5 | Underweight |
| 18.5 - 24.9 | Normal Weight |
| 25 - 29.9 | Overweight |
| 30 - 34.9 | Class I Obesity |
| 35 - 39.9 | Class II Obesity |
| 40 and above | Severe Obesity (Class III Obesity) |
- From your present weight and height attempt calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI) and check the class you belong in the above table.
- What is your body mass index: underweight, normal weight or obesity?
HOW TO FIGHT OBESITY
Medical researchers have found that weight loss of 5-10% of one’s initial body weight can bring great relief to an obese person. Such weight loss can be achieved through:
- regularly exercising for about 30minutes daily for most days of the week.
- Eating fewer quantities of food that the person’s body uses.
- Selecting low fat, low carbohydrate and less energy-dense diet for meals. Plenty of fruits and vegetables will be helpful.
- Drugs that suppress appetite and reduce calorie intake can be prescribed by medical practitioners.
A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE
The war against obesity and overweight is a war meant to avert unfulfilled lifetime; it is a fight to keep one able to achieve one’s God-given role in life. Everybody born into the planet earth has God-ordained purpose to fulfill. Human beings who are wise promptly get connected to God to have their potentials sharpened for purposeful living; foolish ones drift in the sea of humanity and die without notice. Fight this holy war for fruitful living.
