Sky City Dancers

in #albuquerque5 years ago

Here's another video from yesterday's performance of the Buffalo Dance, by the Sky City Buffalo Ram Dance Group, from Acoma Pueblo. This pueblo is about an hour west of Albuquerque, where this dance was performed at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. The dancers are all youths, mostly in middle and high school. But one little girl was only 4, and she was so adorable. She did a great job following the others and keeping up with the dance, for such a little thing! This dance would traditionally be carried out on top of grains of corn spread around the dance area, as it is both a blessing for those in attendance and a prayer for rain and fertility of the land.

Sort:

Does this dance have a storyline @pinkspectre ? and Does each dance movement have meaning for their culture? I guess yes. But I dont know what. In my culture, we have one dance like this talks about hope and gratitude because of fertility. It's called the Kesume Gayo's dance. This dance tells the story of the process of planting rice to harvest.

And yes, a little girl there is so cute. Thanks for sharing it @pinkspectre. God bless you.

Yes, I believe there is a story and a meaning for the movements...but I don't know them unfortunately!
