Explore the ancient Dzibilchaltun

Dzibilchaltun is a renowned tourist destination located in the state of Yucatan. It is a Maya archaeological site of Mexico and lies at around a distance of sixteen kilometers from Merida, the state capital. As per the modern researches, it is said that the builders of this marvel might have picked up this particular location of the city such that it stays close to the salt-producing coastal site, which is around twenty-two kilometers away. The exact location spot is also a decent habitable and reasonably fertile land. The region lying amidst the sea coast and Dzibilchaltun is not suitable to be occupied by humans. It is however occupied by bare rocks or swampy mangroves. The site of Dzibilchaltun has been one of those which have been constantly occupied for a lot many years. Although it has been contracted and expanded from a small-sized town to a medium-sized city for more than once in the long history. One can easily take a quick drive of around thirty minutes from Merida and reach Dzibilchaltun within minutes.

The most renowned structure of Dzibilchaltun is the Temple of the Seven Dolls. It is named so owing to the seven small effigies that the site features back in time when the discovery of the temple was made under a later temple pyramid's ruins. It was done so back in the 1950s by the archaeologists. This is one of the quite renowned destinations that is crowded by tourists who come to observe the bright sunrise through the massive doorways of the temple. The rest of the region of the site is quite conveniently connected to the temple by a white road. It is called by the name of the white road as it was coated with white limestone when originally formed. It was concretely built over rubber and stone fills.

Some of the other offerings of Dzibilchaltun include a gift shop, clean restrooms, and a visitor's center that contains maps for the convenience of the travelers. There was also a museum that the site features Mayan artifacts which was once closed but now has been renovated and re-opened. The site also features the ancient ruins of a Spanish Church of the sixteenth century that was created post-conquest. Another major feature of Dzibilchaltun is the Cenote Xlakah that is situated at the City's center at the place of the ruins. Nowadays, the cenote is utilized as a swimming hole by the visitors.
