In the core of the main city center of Riverside, California, stands the Fox performing theatre. The architecture of the building is just like the buildings were in the time of Spanish colonialism. Constructed in 1929, this theatre building that was and at present is the nub of Riverside art, culture and entertainment has undergone a series of renovations and refurbishment since its creation. After heavy repairs, the Fox performing theatre in Riverside gave an air of competence in performing arts at the regional level. The renovations reached their completion in 2009 and in the following year the theatre re-opened with a grand celebration.

The Fox Theatre in Riverside is renowned for being the first theatre that showed the legendary film Gone with the Wind in 1939.

The Fox Theatre played many roles in the community life of Riverside before turning in to a regional performing arts center. Within the period of the 1930s to 1940s, in the Fox Theatre, the screenings of the Hollywood films were shown before the final project went for editing. By doing so, the filmmakers were contented with the fact that through the viewing of the previews from the Fox Theatre in Riverside, they can get an understandable amount of reviews as Riverside was a largest demographic viewing area. In this way, they do not have to travel far to gather reviews and reception from the audiences.

The visitors will also be astounded to know that during the period of the Second World War, the Fox Theatre of Riverside became a makeshift dormitory to accommodate the soldiers and provide them a place for sleeping when other resting and sleeping areas of the city were jammed packed. The soldiers were used to sleep on the thick carpets of the auditorium.

In 1942, the Fox theatre saw major alterations in its main stage and surrounding green rooms. In place of them came a secondary Lido Theatre that became the center of second rum film of the blockbusters.

In the end, the Fox theatre under the $1.68 billion Riverside Renaissance plan in 2006 initiated its major renovation which lasted for three years. After the restoration, the theatre served the community and became a performing arts facility in the main city center of Riverside.
