The Astronomical Observatory of the Science Department Aerospace Technology (DCTA) is located in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil. This Aviation Department is the largest astronomical instrument in all over the world. After spending a few years of being inoperative, the DCTA Astronomical Observatory started to become the center for Educational Space Activities (NAEE) which was finally activated on July 24, 1995. On July 4, 1996, the Observatorio Astronomico - DCTA became a vital part of the Institute of Aeronautics and Space - IAE.

You can visit the Observatorio Astronomico - DCTA on Tuesdays, however, on holidays and vacations months such as December and January, the center is closed due to vacation. The DCTA Observatory is open every Tuesday to the public; however, you have to visit there between 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. If you are visiting the place with a small group of family members, then you don’t require any special appointment to be made. However, if the trip is any informational tour such as with a school group or college group with more than 10 people on the team, you need to schedule the appointment within 5 business days.

The place is perfect for people who love to hear and learn about stars, planets, and moon. It somehow gives the visitors a somewhat trip-to-heaven feeling. However, you can only learn about astronomy on a bright starry night. When the sky is clouded with clouds, there is no hope for that. You will learn everything about the planets, moon, and stars with a 200 mm diameter refractor telescope. However, if you visit on a cloudy night, don’t be upset, you might not get to see things, but you will definitely hear lectures about the astronomy and aerospace engineering from their employees.

If you are thinking of dining there or something, then bad luck. The Observatory does not provide the visitors with a cafeteria where you can get foods. So try to visit there, packed with whatever you need. Also, if you visit on any other day rather than Tuesday, there is a possible chance you might not get to see or hear anything as the place is open for the visitors only on Tuesday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Also, don’t visit the Observatorio Astronomico - DCTA on January, the vacation month.

The exact location of the Observatorio Astronomico - DCTA is 50, Sao Jose Dos Campos, State of Sao Paulo 12228-615, Brazil. So during and after your stay in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil, don’t forget this place!
