Plaza Grande is the central square in the city of Merida in Mexico. It used to be the social and political center of the Mayan city of T'Hó and the parade ground which was laid by Francisco de Montejo. During the Spanish rule, it was also known as the Plaza de Armas. It is considered one of the nicest plazas in the city that has huge trees, lush green gardens, large benches, and big sidewalks.

The Plaza Grande is always crowded and lively with people. The locals love to meet people and spend time in this plaza. Due to this amazing ambiance many street performers and vendors also put up their stalls here. Dance and live music happen every night in the plaza. The craft market that is set up here on Sundays is the best option to buy amazing local art and craft products. There are many historic buildings in and around this Plaza Grande. Most of these buildings have been renovated from the remains of the Mayan temples and hence are made out of stone. The Museum Fernando Garcia Ponce-Macay, Museo Casa Montejo, Catedral de Mérida, Centro Cultural Olimpo, etc. are some of the historic buildings that are adjacent to the plaza and can be visited. A lot of shopping and eating options are also present in the vicinity of the Plaza. From local cuisine to gourmet restaurants to street food everything is available in the area adjacent to the Plaza.

If you are a history enthusiast then you must visit Mérida, Mexico to learn about its Mayan Heritage. Many history tours also start from the Plaza Grande and take you through all the historic monuments present in the city. These tours are free, and you can give a tip at the end if you wish to. Since the plaza is located in the city center, it is easily accessible by public transport. There is no entry fee to visit the Plaza Grande. You can spend your day visiting the monuments around the plaza and take a relaxing break in the evening here.
