Abolitionist Abstractions Vlog 15: Taking advanatge of a quiet, beautiful morning

in #anarchy6 years ago

Here is today's vlog! It was already a beautiful morning when Murder Dog and I awoke, so I took advantage of the early morning quiet at the marina in order to record a video outside of the Element for once. This was actually the second take, as (of course) the first recording cut off after 10 minutes but I didn't realize it until I had finished. Tech savvy I am not....

Despite the negativity from the night before, I was in better spirits today. Since I got to record outside, I took the opportunity to show some of the inside and the outside of the Element setup. It's still a work in progress, but I keep coming up with ways to pare down what we are carrying. I guess minimalism can be fun!

I also put out another call for anyone in the southern Mi area at the end of the month to come join us at the upcoming MPLFest. It would be great to meet some folks who have been at this lifestyle for awhile and can teach me a thing or ten. Hope to see you there!

I carry way too many clothes with me. While I stayed in Mexico a few months back for three months, I started washing my clothes by hand, instead of going to a laundry. Easy to at least wash socks, underwear, and t-shirts while camping. I keep my clothes in a large airline suitcase on my front seat.

Cool that you can sleep on your front seat. Can't recline my seat really for comfortable sleeping. I'm going to stealth camp in a casino parking garage maybe for three nights this weekend near Louisville, on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. The casino is actually on the Ohio River. I like to play poker, so that's what I'm doing maybe the entire weekend. Weekends are when there are more players and less experienced ones as well. I'm a pretty good player and going to see if I can earn some money this way. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yeah, I have a bunch of clothes with me, too. May need to shed some of them eventually, but I'm dealing for now.

I haven't had to deal with laundry yet, since my wife took some my clothes and washed them at her place before she left town. I'll probably head to a laundromat at some point.

Where is Murder Dog? Need some video footage of your van mate too.

I habe some shorter videos of her that will be up in the next day or two.

Thanks for showing some of your gear. Thought about getting a car carrier as it definitely would free up some space and allow me to carry that extra gear I recently stored in Kentucky. I'd like the freedom to stealth camp more as it gives me more options instead of always having to find a legal camping spot. Generally when I have all my gear with me I put some water proof boxes outside of my vehicle so I have room to sleep. Now I have enough room to keep all my gear in the vehicle and car camp as well.

I like seeing where other people camp because I can maybe camp there in the future. That marina parking lot would be great for me if I ever wanted to visit New York City or Long Island. How far is that spot from Manhattan, miles and minutes? I've stealth camped in parking lots where boat ramps are located. Those are also going to be 24 hour parking areas. Also stealth camped in a train station parking lot in northern Indiana. As you can see, with experience, you will be able to find free spots to camp pretty easily and safely and be saving lots of money. I love living rent free! Need to save money for car repairs and eventually another car when this one wears out. I probably will upgrade to an RV that is a larger size van with a kitchen, sleeping space and a shower, or a regular van when that happens. I really like my Xterra though.

I don't think they can sell out the MPL Fest, as you can always find a place to set up a tent or car camp. They would have to have a thousand people show up to worry about filling up the place. I met you last year, but we didn't really get a chance to talk. I remember you because you are a celebrity and you don't remember me because I'm an introvert that kind of blends into the background.

Van nomading is always a work in progress. I'm constantly looking for ways to improve with space saving gear. I am finding though that I need way less the longer I do this.

Having the car carrier is huge. I wouldn't have anywhere near as many supplies without it. That was just given to me, too, years ago and it comes in very handy.

The marina is about a 45-60 minute drive to Manhattan, depending on traffic. It's just off the Wantagh Parkway, so you can hop right on and quickly hop to a west bound one.

If we met last year, then I'm just not making the connection. Looking forward to actually talking this year, though. We should have plenty to discuss. As for the celebrity thing. Nah, not me, man
LoL. I'm just an asshole with a creamy voice who got lucky.
