From the animated movie "Inside Out " that we watched together with my daughter, character Joy has been her favorite but mine is Anger and our second one that we have in common is Disgusted because she is smart. If you have not seen the movie yet it's almost about the emotions and a story about a family. Animated movies nowadays have a great lesson to catch. Why anger is my favorite character among other characters, simply because he portrays the best example of a man who has not established an ample of patience. All of this emotion is what we keep being a normal human.

What happens to our brain and body when we get angry?

All are INCREASE^^^

  • Heart & Respiratory Rate
  • Blood Pressure
  • Cholesterol and Catecholamines responsible for reactivating of FATS
  • It affects also our immune system
  • It blocks the pre-frontal lobe of our brain which is responsible for being reasonable and keeps us think a normal way.
  • It also affects our digestive system secreting acids.

How it affects our family?

Basically, you will be misunderstood and they will tend to de-attached from you. If anger was redirected to them it's a worst case happens and has a negative effect on them. If they were also responding it in the same pace it will just lead or end up to physical and emotional violence. If this will be the culture and atmosphere in your home, social interaction of your family member will be distorted. For children, they may bring it and imitate this kind of action. For teens, they will be rebellious or antisocial. How about to your partner? If no reconciliation happens a weepy love story will be your fate.

How it affects our job?

A keyboard is always available to slap in the jaw of your hated colleague but never pick it up it's painful. The environment and demand of your job is a stressful battleground that will trigger your emotion to be in ANGER state especially conflicts is visible. There are companies now building a room for distressing but if you have none please read below next to this paragraph. A simple email that if you can't control your emotions in real anger you might have an inefficient result that you missed the deadline or instead of thinking a solution you were overpowered and eaten by your emotion. Interaction and relationship with your colleague? This is an important one that you have to mend with them instead of being rude and creating a positive environment instead of the tension rooted from you. You will be a raging bull that your enemy or competitor use it as your weakness and they will wave the red sheet to a different direction. Set-up trap makes them successful and you'll end up broke.

What to do when ANGER strikes?

This might be HELPFUL to you

  • Control your breathing
    Airway must be the highest priority, as you inhale oxygen inhale positivity too and as you exhale carbon dioxide exhale negativity too. A study from the US says that if we control breathing we keep back our thinking in a normal state and produces a solution. Everything will follow your heart rate and your blood pressure.

  • Pause/Break
    Create a traffic light in your mind and press the red STOP light. Hey Loi for what? Since we are the one to control our mind if you have trained to stop irrational ideas, effective one will be structured. Realign and organize all the blocks of your own ideas that resulted from decongestion. If there will be a flare conflicting conversation press the STOP light button again and ask for space. If you learn the timing of hitting the red STOP light this will prevent the eruption of your own magma.

  • Meditate like a Monk
    Training your mind again. It promotes more on concentration and relaxation. This has been a practice of religious people like Buddhist, heard the Yoga? and etc. It's not just about closing your eyes and sitting but it's finding your inner peace and arrange your mind. Having a healthy clear mind reflects also a healthy body.

  • Eargasm
    Oppose your emotion with relaxing and mellow music. Instrumentals like piano and saxophones really brings you into a calm mood. If you are tactile or want some activity then it is best to choose upbeat songs. If you are more on a rocker side then so be it "Be a Rockstar" and channel out all the negative energy.

  • Socialize
    It's a relief when someone empathizes you, listening from your rant and giving a helpful advice. It's an awesome experience when they understand you like getting a glass of bottles to throw and break them. Human, I think the best outlet because they can relate and understand you more. Loved ones like your parents give a delightful feeling and a genuine support.

  • Consult Experts
    No way to control it? It's time to ask for any therapy or medication. Cooperate for their assessment and intervention.At the end of the day, you will be the one to get benefit from it.
