There is No Quick Fix
Anything worth having in life takes hard work and persistence.
The most rewarding things in life rarely come easy. Yet we seem hell-bent on finding the next hack or shortcut to get there quickest with the least amount of effort.
Why do this? Why don't we just buckle down and do the hard work? Do what needs to be done?
Could it be that we are consumed by (ever-growing volumes of) content that tells us that there is an easier, more hackable way of doing things? Heck, I gobbled up Tim Ferriss's The Four Hour Work Week! That's before all the click-bait articles that steal hours of our time as they promise to free up more leisure time whilst our earnings magically sky-rocket!
How many times do we need to be reminded that there is no quick fix?
There simply isn't one. Stop looking and get down to the work that needs to be done. Cal Newport's excellent book, "Deep Work: Rules for Focus in a Distracted World" was an important read for me as it reminds us of some home-truths about buckling down and doing the work. Equally, Steven Pressfield's "The War of Art": we must fight the resistance and do what we need to do. To do the hard work.
When we stop and realise that there is no quick fix, it takes a weight off us. We suddenly start to remember that we just need to get down to the basics and get really good at them. Honing our skills. Sharpening our saws. Bruce Lee said it best:
"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who had practiced one kick 10,000 times"So in business and in life let's stop searching for the shortcuts, the hacks and the quick fixes. They don't exist and any that are proclaimed to work were probably false positives (blips that will not happen again).
Let's roll up our sleeves and do the hard work. It is only hard and persistent work that will make a difference in the long-run.
