| Today I want to show an exotic African bird for us - Southern ground hornbill (lat. Bucorvus leadbeateri). These interesting birds belong to the family Bucerotidae and are its largest representatives. They live in Africa south of the equator.But their population is decreasing. Therefore Southern ground hornbill are listed in the Red Book as vulnerable. Habitat is increasingly being destroyed by humans, especially in South Africa. But this is superimposed on such a factor that the birds breeding atypically slowly - once every three years. And besides, biologists have noticed that only one nestling survives from several eggs. | Сегодня хочу показать экзотическую для нас африканскую птицу – кафрский рогатый ворон (лат. Bucorvus leadbeateri). Относятся эти интересные птицы к семейству птиц-носорогов (лат. Bucerotidae) и являются самыми крупными его представителями. Живут они в Африке южнее экватора. Но их становится всё меньше. Поэтому кафрские рогатые вороны внесены в Красную книгу как уязвимые. Среда обитания всё больше уничтожается человеком, особенно в ЮАР. Но это накладывается на такой фактор, что сами птицы размножаются нетипично медленно – раз в три года. Да к тому же биологи заметили, что из всей кладки всегда выживает лишь один птенец. |
| In the Moscow Zoo, a couple of Southern ground hornbill live more than 20 years. This is for now. When I photographed, respectively, 10 years. They and in nature, as I wrote, multiply slowly.
