A big little thing

This is one big grasshopper!
I love the ferocious looking spines at the back of it's legs, like poison tipped darts, and the circular joint on the powerful back legs that look to me like hinges on a robot of sorts.

This specimen looks almost alien, with those large compound eyes.

This big little grasshopper ended up on our house one sunny day and stayed in the same area for about five more. I wonder why?
