Reunion With An Old Friend

My american friend Roger who lives and is retired in Chiang Mai loves dogs so much he passionately cares for them in his freetime. One of his four-legged friends named Air Force was adopted by a thai man and took him to his home 90km away in Chiang Dao a lovely little town nestled in the mountains with rice fields to the south and a beautiful mountain called Doi Luang to the north.

Roger was in the american air force in 1971 and stationed in Ubon Ratchathani near the Cambodian border the US had a large airbase there, he was a trained dog handler during the Vietnam war and patrolled the air base with his german shepherd.

Back to the re-union, my friends and i had planned a charity outing to give gifts, clothes, stationery equipment etc to a local school were many of the children are poor and are in need of many items to help them. These families live in rural areas around Chiang Dao and come from many different hilltribes. I shall hopefully do a blog about these people in the near future.

So as we were heading up into this area from Chiang Mai Roger had an idea to visit his old friend the dog that was adopted on the off chance the owner was home and he could meet up with Air-Force. When we finally arrived there, we had to wait 10 minutes and the owner let us into his garden and finally watch Roger reunite with his beloved friend.

Roger was so excited and let his affection run wild as i took many shots of them together. After staying there for 30 minutes a job well done and time to head back home before the night draws in and i don't like driving back through the mountains at night as it's not very safe due to the reckless drivers some of them drunk, some no lights and stray animals can cross the road.
