Pictures of Mason Bees landing on 2x4 home

Watching the bees enter these holes makes me wonder exactly is going on inside. Ive seen people replace the side with plastic so you can kind of see inside. Though I have not done this so I guess ill just have to wonder. They are very busy with their tasks and seem to only take breaks at night and when its raining, as long as the sun is out they are busy collecting pollen for their young.

It seems they prefer the holes closer to the top of the 2x4 block I made for them. Maybe further down the holes get flooded.

Above is a little roof I made for them, but with our sideways rain we get I think it does not work so well near the bottom.

You can see how the last few rows on the bottom seem to be deteriorating quickly so maybe the bees know.

Those streaks on the side of the 2x4 is pollen that has clumped together. Probably a mason bee was resting there and it got stuck the wood.

You can see some more pollen and sap, the bees cover themselves in the pollen to it makes sense it gets on the boxes. They spend a lot of time flying up to them and landing on them.

U r welcome. ☺

I see such a hive for the first time.
Yes, it is really interesting to watch the bees, especially inside their beehive.

@ludmila.kyriakou it seems these are not well known.. most people just know of honey bee hives. These a are very different. And I can stand next to their homes without protection.

It's just great when you don't need protection!
In this case, you can safely observe the life of bees, as far as possible.

@ludmila.kyriakou

Yeah at the worst they bump into me or try to land on me. Nothing bad has happened to me yet with them around.

It is very good and interesting!

@solominer it's awesome how you take care of the bees, having a way to see what they are doing would be interesting as long as it does not bother them.

@myjob thanks alot yeah its important to me to care for them. Okay I'll see what I can set up.. I think it would be interesting too.

@solominer be sure to post it when you figure it out, I would love to see it. I wish we had these bees, I would build a nesting box for them.
