BATS

Last week I went to a class and learned about bats. I would like to share some things about Bats. But first what do you think about Bats? Do you think they are cute or scary? I kind of think they are cute. The reason why I think they are cute because there are tiny Bats with big ears.
Now I'm going to share some things about bats. Bats are animals that are usual active at night, that means their nocturnal. Some times there up during the day, but that means they have been disturbed by something during their regular sleeping time. Bats' diets are mostly bugs as you can image, but did you know that some eat nectar or fruit? The bat expert said some bats will eat berries.
Now who do you think would want to eat the bats? Well, their predators are Hawks, Owls, Raccoon, and Weasels.
Did you know that bats have tails? Bats tails are at the bottom of their body like any animal but its covered up with their skin.

What is the name of a baby bat? A pup! I thought it was funny that is sounds like a baby dog. Wonder why they named it a pup?

The life cycle of a bats is that they are first born then the pup lives in a nursery with all the other pups because the moms go hunting then when it is night the moms come home to feed the pups.
Do you know what a roost is? It means to move to different places to sleep and stay for example, caves, trees, logs, anything they can hang upside down on. The pup clings on to the mom and waits on till their at a new place to sleep. Then the pup learns to fly at 2 – 3 months old. Then it becomes a adult around 1 year old and does the cycle starts over again.

It was fun to learn about bats and how they play a role in our environment. So when you see a bat don't be scared; it is just out finding food.
