I Took Truffle In - Day 229 - Haiku - On Rescuing, and Being Rescued by, Cats

I took Truffle in
and have now entrusted her
safety to others.

Have no fear, we haven't given up our Truffle girl, but as she is now a healthy five months old, I did take her in this morning to be spayed. So prayers and best wishes for her healthy and safe return tomorrow morning. What fun.

Like the goaty twins before her, she did her best to match Jeff Buckley's high notes on the way to the clinic, and even managed a time or two, though she still lacks his sustain.

And, after complaining loudly the entire way to the Spay and Neuter Clinic, once I came to fetch her after all the paperwork was signed, she was calm and quiet. I guess she was saying, "Well, this place doesn't smell like home, but at least I'm out of the car."

Ah, little does she know.

And, of course, the best part of spaying and neutering are the post operative care instructions, including this gem:

"No running, jumping, playing, swimming or other strenuous activity for 7 to 10 days."

Get real . . . she's a flipping 5-month-old kitten!!!

She and Musica LIVE to do mock battle, several times a day, she's ridiculously fast and crafty, she is the quintessential escape artist, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

No worries, though - we have the "no swimming" thing down. I guarantee it. ;-)

So, having been forcibly kept indoors for the past several weeks, the better to prevent more unplanned kittens, she now gets an additional 7 - 10 days of indoor play only, which at least she's pretty much okay with.

And the one bright spot in our weird-*ssed weather having apparently skipped directly from summer into mid-winter is that, for the most part, she has been pretty willing to be caught when she has gotten out, as it's been cold and/or wet out. So that's a plus, and has made it relatively easy to keep her contained.

Of course, Marek would love for her to have a litter of kittens, but when I informed of the potential downsides, and that, if she did, he had to find good homes for them ALL, he ultimately agreed that spaying her was for the best.

So for now I an writing this (as best I can) with a Bear necklace, as he has hooked his front claws into the neck of my sweatshirt, and is purring into my chin, as only he can do.

He and I rescued each other when my former marriage dissolved, and he adores Marek too, so life with our Bear boy is a joy. He is the sweetest cat ever. His favorite thing ever is to climb up under my chin, or Marek's, put his arms around our necks, and hold on while petting him as he purrs.

So he's taking all the cuddling he can get with Truffle out of the house for the day. ;-)
