Fire salamanders

in #animals6 years ago

These are Red Efts, a local newt that migrates back to where it hatches to mate and then grow into its next form in its life cycle. We find them on either side of our road making the dangerous journey back to home waters. This pair were separated but we helped them both across to the safe side of the road.

Here is a little more about the newts in my area from Nova Scotia our neighboring province. We really love the little guys, they seem to be very curious and enjoy the warmth of your hands when it is cool out. They will play around on you for quite a while until they feel it is time to move on, or you put them where they need to be. They seem to get even more red when you get them warmed up! My wife and I first found one in our kitchen one summer night many years ago and since then we have found more and more in the wild but never in the kitchen again.(just the tree frogs) Unlike today we didn't google everything, so we called them fire salamanders.

Thanks for reading!

They are absolutely gorgeous. I am in France and in our last house every year we would find baby lizards in our airing cupboard. Once they were large enough we would take them to the garden. Our were really sweet, but not the amazing colour of yours!
