Bear a story of Love and Loss ...

My friend who has a pig rescue just lost one of her pig children. Bear who was a gentle giant had a hard sad life. For most of his life he lived in the woods with his brother Hogzilla where they suffered a lot of hardship. My friend met Hogzilla and bear when she had rented a field as temporary location to house 42 pigs she had saved from slaughter and several others who had survived the hurricane off 2018. At first Hogzilla and Bear would watch from the outskirts of the woods but soon Hogzilla who was the more courageous of the two would come and nuzzle the younger rescue pigs and visit with them every day as bear waited on the edge of the woods standing guard. After a while Hogzilla and bear would spend the night sleeping next to the fence of the pen where the piglets were and then leave each morning to stroll the woods and then come back at feeding time. My friend was hoping to get them to join the pig herd When tragedy struck and Hogzilla was stabbed by some idiot in the woods several times in stomach and back. Hogzilla cam back to his bed of straw next to the fence, that my friend had made for him, and laid down for the last time. Bear was devastated and confused. He nuzzled his dead friend for hours and finally went back to the woods where he was not seen for a few days. after a few days he started coming back never coming close enough to the grownups but letting my friends young son feed and pet him. Weeks went by but eventually they gained the lonely pigs trust and he finally became part of the family for good, and when my friend purchased a large farm and land to open an official rescue Bear moved with them to his own piece of earthly paradise. All seemed well until there were complications after his neutering and bear had several longer stints at the veterinary clinic. Despite all the difficulties it really looked like he was going to make it and recover. Sadly on easter weekend he relapsed and soon passed away. My friend and especially her son are devastated bear will be missed, he was loved by many :( We can only hope that when he went to whatever lies beyond his best friend Hogzilla was waiting for him and that they are now free from harm in a place of beauty and love.
