Huge Victory And Positive Change! The Dog Meat Trade In Bali Is Finally Coming To An EndsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #animalwelfare7 years ago (edited)

Its a true victory to read about such amazing news that Bali bans the dog meat trade. Finally! The ban went in effect  immediately. Hopefully it will inspire compassion for animals who are raised and killed for meat and encourage many other nations.

Animal advocates and thousands of dog lovers have a reason to celebrate a major win, following the historic announcement that Bali has banned the sale of dog meat after an undercover investigation exposed the horrors.

RIP Taksu=Charisma (poisoned)

I applaud everybody who helped to end the trade: Animals Australia, The Bali Animal Welfare Association(BAWA)– the Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN), Animal Friends Jogja (AFJ), Garda Satwa Indonesia (Animal Guard Indonesia – GSI), Change For Animals Foundation (CFAF) and House of Stray in Bogor, Java who helped to combat the nationwide dog meat trade.

"This is a momentous decision by Governor Pastika that will not only spare many thousands of dogs from terrible suffering but will help to restore the positive relationship the Balinese people have enjoyed with their unique heritage dogs for centuries,” said Ms White from Animals Australia. “. - Source Care2Go.com

After an international outrage and obvious pressure to protect the image of Bali tourism, the Balinese Governor Made Mangku Pastika has issued an official letter calling on government agencies to stop the sale of dog meat. It was about time after watching the shame for many years, dogs being poisoned, strangled, stolen from our homes and shot or beaten to death including our pet dogs.

Taksu & Cookie were poisoned among 70.000 killed animals each year and served in over 75 "RW Warungs" spread out on the island.

Dr Nata Kesuma, the head of Bali's Livestock and Animal Health Services, said last week: "It is important to end the trade in Bali, especially to protect our culture and tourism industry, as well as to apply the national animal welfare law."

So many people from around the world have expressed their distress and concern for Bali’s dogs and hopes for change achieved.

I am beyond happy!

Dogs are not food!

The founder of Bali's Animal Welfare Association BAWA, Janice Girardi, was more cautious and said : "It's a good first step but there's a very long way to go …"

Slaughter methods documented by BAWA:

100% of dogs are inhumanely killed, often in full view of other dogs, with: 70% being butchered alive ;25% poisoned;1% shot with air rifles; and 4% are inhumanely killed using other methods. And all of this is for a profit of between just one to four US dollars (Rp 15,000 to Rp 40,000).

PLEASE DONATE AND HELP!

The Balinese people have a very special and cultural relationship with their dogs, even though this is sometimes seen by outsiders as not humane. Balinese society is highly spiritual and can be superstitious. Many people believe the Bali dog will alert people to the unseen presence of “spirits” – both good and bad. Excellent post! Resteemed, upvoted and followed! Bravo! =)

Oh god how cruel they are..they should be punished for dis cruel thing....

its getting better and I am so happy for those news. Usually good Balinese do not eat dog meat and care well for their dogs but unfortunately some of them want to make money and sell.

Good news. Not they also have to stop it in China and Korea.

I hope Bali can be a good example for all other countries who still allow such horror.

One step forward again, great news.

Its quite interesting to feel like a minnow again :) posting such content

But the good thing is that you are able to find the rewards still; Happy for you :)

How did it happen :) I can't even believe it myself

That's awesome! It's a little step yet a big change toward a better world ! Peace to you m friends!

Horrible. This pictures were disturbing.

Its getting better !!! Thats the most important thing at the moment. There are many disturbing acts in our world. I hope for more dignity and respect for "human and animal" kind.

This is excellent news!!

Still a long way to go to implement the law but its a first step to show a good example to other countries.

Wah cant believe missed this post... excellent article, straight to the point and well researched. Nice one Mama x

thanks ! we got another one for you

That's terrible to hear how the dogs were cruelly mistreated, and a great victory that it was stopped; however, dogs are no less food than any other conscious being.

We exist in a thing known to the occultists as an Ouroboros, the snake eating its own tail. In this existence, Life begets Life and there is no other way around it. Even plants are conscious and I'm sure don't like being lined up in rows to be slaughtered when they naturally grow in an extremely bio-diverse area.

Perspective is everything.

Our pets should not be stolen. It's against the law and its not correct to sell dog meat to tourists who believe its chicken :(
I am glad its official now , finally that dog trade is forbidden in Bali.

I totally agree that pets should not be stolen, and that the meat should be labelled correctly.

My question to you, though, is what makes a chicken any different than a dog?

You might have to get a dog and a chicken to find out. I have both.

I have worked on farms.

You are avoiding my question, what is the difference between chickens and dogs?

I eat eggs! I don't eat dogs, cats, monkeys ( the list is long) nor human beings.
Its brutal to strangle, beat and slaughter any "BEEING"
I do not live in the " WILD" and have to struggle for survival in nature.

So you do not eat chicken meat, you only eat chicken eggs?

And as far as the idea of strangling, beating, and slaughtering any being, empirical science shows more and more each day that plants, and the entire vegetable kingdom, display signs of consciousness, and they without a doubt have a pain response system.

Struggling for survival in the forest is only different from survival in the city in that we've caged and boxed everything in. We are not separate from nature but rather we are an intrinsic part of nature, so we are always surviving IN nature.

The only difference between a dog, a chicken, and a tomato is the mind set you use to recognize such.

Why We need to save THE BALI DOG , possibly the oldest breed in the world???

Bali’s beautiful indigenous dog, possibly the oldest breed in the world, is widely misunderstood and may face threat of extinction.
Scientists at the University of California Davis (UCL Davis) genetic laboratory who took blood samples from Bali’s street dogs concluded that the Bali dog is the oldest breed of dog known to man. That means the Bali Dog is older than the Australian Dingo, the New Guinea singing dog, and the African wild dog.
The Bali dog’s DNA is a mixture of Australian Dingo, Chow-Chow originally from northern China, and Akita, a large Spitz breed of dog originating from the mountainous northern regions of Japan. This inbuilt and hitherto protected genetic diversity makes the Bali dog strong. It can survive on the streets in the harshest of conditions without the veterinary attention needed by western breeds.
The integrity of the Bali dog was protected for centuries until a law prohibiting the import of dogs to Bali was lifted in 2004. Since then, breed dogs have become fashionable. Bali’s heritage dog is now threatened with extinction as a unique breed through a combination of crossbreeding, mass culling and the terrible dog meat trade.

OK , I understand already what you try to explain. I still would not eat dogs.

yes, part of the horror of the meat trade.

unfortunately, fotos such as that last one are also commonplace in Spain because of hunting with dogs, hundreds of dogs are bred, tested and the majority that don't meet the standards are cruelly killed or abandoned.

so thanks for the partial good news, and lets hope we can keep moving forward

I was actually quite in shock when I heard about so many European countries who treat their animals that badly as well.
We can only be thankful for so many organizations and animal lovers who take on the daily fight to make changes.
Nice to meet you!

it is super shocking if you go into it a bit more.

I don't really recommend it.

I don't even fight, it's beyond useless here.

you have to remember that this is the land of Don Quijote, tilting at windmills.

I put in a few complaints, and it went nowhere.

The foxes are in charge of the hen-house

and now with all the ones I have saved and not re-homed, I don't even see others anymore.

so little fight in me.

but yes, nice to meet you too
