Blame! Synopsys
An immense city humans built that sprawls tens of thousands of miles. Well, they didn't exactly build it. They've built gigantic constructor autonomous robots that would do that for them, along with an automated robotic security force to eliminate hostiles.
Humans connected to these robots with their minds, because they genetically engineered themselves thanks to their unbelievably advanced technology. Thanks to the "network access gene", they could connect and control the city. Every citizen had them.
Until a contagion spread out, nulifying the effects of this gene in everyone. After they lost connection and access to the city's online network, they began being treated as hostiles by the city. The security guard began eliminating all of them.
Present time in the anime takes place many, many years after this event, when the city didn't have anyone else left to command it. Constructors continuosly and chaotically built on their own, expanding over the outside world at an alarming rate.
The story focuses on a few explorers who are part of a group of survivors who accidentally ran into an incredibly skillful person while looking for food. He manages to save some of them when the security guard detects and pursues them.
This person, Killy, is looking for a carrier of the network gene so he can restore the city back into human control. From there on, the story unfolds. This is basically the synopsis. You should watch it. I saw it on Netflix yesterday. It's amazing.
