What protects the condom and where it is useless

in #annieroxxie5 years ago (edited)

Condoms made of latex or synthetic materials protect against unwanted pregnancy and some sexually transmitted infections. These include HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis and hepatitis. However, in protection against herpes, syphilis, HPV, scabies and pediculosis, they are almost useless.

Condom and unplanned pregnancy.

Unfortunately, you can get pregnant even in a condom. On average, it protects against unplanned pregnancy by 80-88% of the Reasons for low efficiency may be as follows:

  • The product is of poor quality or was stored incorrectly.
  • The partner initially put the condom on the wrong side and subsequently turned and put on the other, so the protective properties of the product are reduced by 13%.
  • A man wears a condom just before ejaculation or shortly before it occurs. If you wear a condom just before ejaculation, the risk increases by 8%, and when you remove the contraceptive before the end of sexual contact by 9.6%.
  • Pulling on a condom to the point where there is no reservoir to collect sperm will worsen the situation by 5%.
  • Putting on a condom only to the middle of the penis can result in it slipping in 3.2% of cases.
  • Do not change the condom between sexual acts is harmful to the integrity of the material.
  • Application of lubrication fat. Fats destroys latex.

If condoms are used incorrectly, the effectiveness of their protective properties is significantly reduced. The product may break or slip during sexual intercourse. Improper use of condoms accounts for 15% of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Often rush products with a fluted surface texture.

From what diseases the condom protects.

Condoms are most effective in fighting sexually transmitted viruses. Infection can occur both in vaginal and oral or anal sex. Because of the physiological characteristics of the body with unprotected sexual intercourse, women are more likely than men to catch an infection. Also, the risk of infection increases with anal sex.

  • HIV is the most dangerous virus that can be contracted through sexual contact. When used correctly, condoms protect against it by 90-97%. In homosexual intercourse efficiency is reduced to 80%. However, according to one study, the risk of infection in single sexual intercourse with a carrier of HIV infection is 0.1%. Basically, this disease is transmitted through the blood.
  • Gonorrhea can be asymptomatic, like some other STIs, which leads to sad consequences due to its untimely detection. A condom reduces the risk of infection by 70%.
  • Chlamydia is transmitted by domestic means in 3-5% of cases and in 60-70% is transmitted through sexual contact. The infection causes diseases such as pharyngitis, proctitis, ophthalmoplegias, pelvioperitonit. The possibility of catching chlamydia in a condom is reduced by 73%.
  • Trichomoniasis in 20% of cases detected in a pair of Ureaplasma, a chlamydia in 15-20%, with gonorrhea and 30% with microplasmas in 40% of cases. Trichomonade stamps are resistant to antibiotics, making treatment difficult. A condom will reduce the chances of getting trichomoniasis by 71.6%.
  • Hepatitis B and C are also transmitted through the blood or during sexual intercourse. The effectiveness of condoms in protecting against this disease is 88%.

The best way to treat STIs is to prevent them. Condoms significantly reduce the risk of infection with viruses, and with additional precautions, the risk can be reduced to zero.

  • Use condoms all the time.
  • Regularly be surveyed for the presence of STIs.
  • Avoid casual sex.
  • Use local antiseptics if necessary.
  • Observe intimate hygiene.

Infections in which condoms are ineffective.

Barrier contraceptives do not protect against diseases transmitted through contact skin contact of a healthy person with the skin of the genitals of an infected partner. Pay attention to the presence of various kinds of rashes on the genitals of the partner.

Syphilis is transmitted by domestic means, but the main way of infection is sexual contact. The disease is transmitted through the body's biological fluids and through ulcers. Syphilis is often chronic, and the first symptoms can occur only after 3 months. The causative agent of the disease is pale Treponema. The microbe multiplies in the human body and affects the vessels, causing tissue necrosis, after which symptoms appear in the form of ulcers and poor health.

Genital herpes manifests itself in the form of rashes with bubbles on intimate places, causing burning and pain. It is transmitted by unprotected sexual intercourse or through contact with a herpes ulcer on the skin. Women are more prone to the disease, the condom protects against them in 25% of cases, but it does not protect men at all, because of some physiological differences.

Papillomavirus infection (HPV) is one of the viruses most commonly transmitted through sexual contact. Almost 50% of men and women leading an active sex life are infected with papillomavirus. At the moment, more than a hundred varieties of this virus have been studied, and about forty of them cause the appearance of warts on the genitals. Approximately 14 types of HPV cause oncogenic rashes that lead to cancer. The disease is transmitted in any form of sexual intercourse or domestic way.

Scabies — a parasitic disease that provokes itchy itching. The main symptom is unbearable itching, aggravated at night. The disease is transmitted through direct contact with the infected or domestic way. Without a carrier, the itchy itch can live only a day. In the upper layer of human skin, female itch forms passages and lays eggs. Get rid of scabies easily enough, rubbing special drugs into the skin throughout the body.

Pubic pediculosis, in simple words, pubic lice. They are infected with pubic pediculosis through direct contact with the carrier, including sexual contact, as well as through clothing, bed and personal hygiene products. The main symptoms are: itching, rash, redness of the skin, detection on the body of the parasites themselves and their eggs. If you detect pediculosis, you must thoroughly wash, disinfect bed linen, clothes and go to the dermatologist.

Condoms practically do not protect against the above diseases. Help they as you understood only in rare cases. Now I will show how effective a condom is in protecting against various sexual infections in percentage terms.

  • HIV 90-97%;
  • Gonorrhoea 70%;
  • Chlamydia 73%;
  • Trichomoniasis 71,6%;
  • Hepatitis B, C 88%;
  • Syphilis is not effective;
  • Genital herpes 25% for women;
  • HPV is not effective;
  • Scabies are not effective;
  • Lice are not effective;
