The First Excursion of this trip

Well, due to the Drake Passage being about as smooth as I have seen it over the past 2 years in the countless crossings I have done whilst working down this way. The vessel made amazing fast time and we actually arrived to the South Shetland Islands half a day earlier than usual, which meant we had time in the afternoon to get off the ship for a zodiac cruise and wander around a nice sized Chinstrap breeding colony.

Funny enough, this was the same place that we visited last on the our most recent expedition, which is called Half Moon Island. Its a nice place and the sun was out but the wind was also incredibly fierce, which meant for a more adventurous and wet zodiac cruise than what we typically experience. However, people were in an adventurous spirit and happily enjoyed the bumpy experience just to have a first chance to explore this region in the sunshine.

Now we are currently sailing towards the Antarctic Peninsula, where we are planning on exploring an area around Cuverville Island. All we have to hope for now is that the wind isn't too bad and the sun is out again. Wish me luck, Steemians!!

Thomas, forgive me if you've mentioned this elsewhere, but I'm curious if you're working with One Ocean Expeditions, because I know a few people who have sailed with them. :)

Its all good, mate. Currently, I work as a guide, marine biologist or expedition coordinator for Quark Expeditions. As I type this I am on a ship, M/V Ocean Endeavour and we are on the Antarctic Peninsula now and about to land at a place called Cuverville Island and its currently snowing - welcome to summer hahaha

So cool! It's almost as exciting to get a message from Antarctica as it would be to get one from space. :D Does Quark travel to all parts of the Antarctica or just the areas closer to Argentina?

Most of their trips to Antarctica are around the Peninsula but also to the Falkland Islands and South Georgia and they did do a bunch of expeditions to Snow Hill to see the Emperor penguins and their chicks a month or so ago

Awesome, thanks! Have fun there, man!!! :)
