The Entrance to the Steel City - lightpainting in a secret location in Sheffield with OCDsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #appreciator4 years ago (edited)

A friend of mine tipped me off about a tram bridge with a concrete structure in the shape of a 3m x 3m box running underneath and the fact someone had left the maintenance door open. So I very quickly grabbed my gear and almost ran to the place before it was closed off again! Since we shot this unfortunately the door is bolted shut again...

This was shot in one photographic exposure and involved two tripods and two lenses. Before starting the exposure, first I lined up the doorway with @neilru posing in front of a flash stand mounted flashgun and noted the focus point and aperture. Then I lined up the other tripod and lens combination on the larger silhouette with Neil posing in his hoodie. Once happy with both elements, I started the exposure and set about starting with the larger silhouette first making sure that there is unexposed dark space within which to place the smaller silhouette. Once I shot the larger silhouette, I placed the lens cap on the lens without ending the exposurre and changed the lens in complete darkness. Then I transferred the camera to the other pre-arranged tripod and Neil set off a smoke pellet to create a bit of atmosphere for the smaller silhouette. Job done - I hope I haven't confused anyone by this description but it's easy once you work it out!

About me: I specialise in shooting lightpainting images all in one photographic exposure which involves different elements with different lenses and tripods.

Thanks mate, I like the idea of there being so many sub-genres within lightpainting to keep revisiting or trying for the first time :-)

I really like the depth and, like always, it's sharp like a razor.

Thanks mate, this is an "old" photo; I'd probably do something very different in the same place. Evolution!
