Today's curated project: Tropically Intimate Restaurant

Welcoming myself back on the Archisteem curation initiative of mine. It has been some time since I update any interesting projects up here while I am occupied with other projects and works. Being away from this for some time, I felt that making myself to go through some newly published projects will allow me to widen my scope of knowledge about design.

The F&B project is led by mf+arquitetos a local Brazilian architect and took place at the São Paulo, Brazil. The project is a restaurant which covered approximate 200m² and was completed in 2018.

At first sight, I was attracted by the tropical and soft ambiance reflected from the design of the restaurant. I love how the architect plays with wooden brown texture to compliment the tropical green. This gives the restaurant and very down to earth yet classy environment to be in. With different level and width of openings, it creates a rather intimate and comfy space for the customers to enjoy the food while well protected from rain and scorching sun.

From the façade of the entrance, the architect uses stone veneer and stone strip tiles to create a strong and formal entrance to welcome the guest. In the interior, the space becomes a more relaxed and private lounge. The space is encompassed with wooden stripe wall finishing and ceiling, forming a seamless space with a birch, bright homogenous tiles that compliment the wooden brown of the wall and ceiling. In addition to that, the columns of the building have the finish of cement screed that blends well with the overall tone.

To make the space more tropical and breathable, the courtyard is introduced whereby at the end of the restaurant, with a garden section. This brings the outdoor nature into the indoor space, making it the guests more comfortable with the space. The exhibition cabinet is also well designed with a featured black stripe marble wall, illuminated with warm LED light behind every cabinet panel. This creates a very elegant exhibiting corner for the restaurant to showcase their traditional kitchen wares, wine collection and so forth.

In overall, I love the design as how it compliments with the tropical climate. I could make use of this concept and apply in my future home design as well that could invoke a sense of Zen-ness in my house while keeping the overall interior modern and simple.

What do you think about this kind of interior design approach? Do you like it? Drop some comments for me.

Yeah, been a while since I see any posting on buildings from you.
The first thing attracts my attentions was all the greens too! Love to have one at my front porch... hahaha

Haha ya, but still not forgetting to continue this personal initiative.

Love the greens :) despite hearing feedbacks from some seniors and clients that this may not work for private dwelling as it is hard to maintain.

That's too bad, it would be nice to have more of these that cutting down all the trees!

That would be my dream to introduce this kind of property to Malaysia market and also other parts of the world, especially private dwelling. However, not sure on how the consumer will react to this.

People who really love nature will love it! Just... keep the cost down a bit loh... hahaha

Haha, definitely need to have reasonable costing too. If not can’t sell 😂

Yeah!! Hahaha...
