The Gornesti Palace

After centuries of being inhabited by members of the Teleki family, the ensemble was turned into a TB pre-school for children shortly after nationalization. During this time, the curious people looked at the palace remotely, with few being able to cross the threshold and visit it.

This year, the ensemble re-entered the Teleki family and the TB preventer was moved. This weekend, a team of specialists from Tg. Mures, supported by the Teleki family, organized the Castle Day for the first time and officially opened the visitors' gateways.

We walked through the imposing interior, trying to imagine, from the exposed photographs and explaining to us, the atmosphere of the past. Although emptied and modified, the rooms still retain the original stoves and carpentry. In the ballroom were preserved the stoves, the painted ceiling and the Murano glass chandeliers, whose parts were disassembled and stored. The park retains the statues (wrapped in protective foil), the funerary monument of Jozsef Teleki and the rare tree species.

We were surprised by how many people had come to visit the palace and found out, once back in Bucharest, that their number had exceeded 500 and that tourists from Brasov, Miercurea Ciuc and even Budapest came.

We were delighted that the palace could be visited properly: informed guides and the opportunity to pose. Castle Day was the first event of its kind in Gornesti and will hopefully be followed by others. The palace can only be visited during these events.
