RE: Ark Survival Evolved: Raft Life For Me

in #ark6 years ago

Rocks on water, it seems so ridiculous, but thank you for this detailed article. Maybe we'll get back to it and try your strategy, but well, we also wanted to build a tree house and guess how it ended...

How long it took you to get to this point? I see that you have some OP armor and stuff. We played Ark with my boyfriend, but we were always fighting and blaming each other when some of our dinosaurs died, or rage quit when something ate us. I still remember how we wanted to put a bed somewhere and bf flew so low with his flier that something ate him. It was the biggest rage quit ever.

We never got too far, but one reason is that we played it on PS4 where the split screen is just terrible.

Sort:

This was done on a private server. I know we have taming rate at x2. I’m not quite sure how far XP is set I would not be shocked it if was between x2 to 5x. I am 80 or so hours of played time in but there also a bunch of other stuff done as well. That time also includes a large chunk of afking during the night, and leaving it running while I worked on blogs for it or had large batches of crafting happening like gunpowder .

Depending on your xp rates we also did the bulk over a weekend when people had time off. The first real life night spend you could have a raft crafted but nothing on it other than a bed. You than can use that to go around looking for a place to start. We were upgrading our thatched 3 by 3 house into wood as well. Second weekend night we were upgrading to stone.

You also want find metal nodes and get into metal tools as soon as you can at level 20. That really speeds up farming by hand till you get some dinosaurs that can help out. We are still looking for a beaver for farming wood. We had a trike we were using for a while to gather berrys that had added bonus of getting thatched and wood. We also have ones to collect stone, metal, and flint.

Once you start to get into a rhythm it’s not so bad. Still ark can kick you when you are down. We have lost 6-7 dinosaurs right now including 3 trikes, 2 birds, and some worthless thing we tamed for the fun of it. These things are just expected to happen.

My first 2 nights I might have died a four or five times. We have some nasty birds in the area and could not get deal with. We also had a rex come and take out half our wooden hut at the time. Yesterday I was eaten by a rex and I feel off a cliff and drowned.

It does take a fair amount of time, lots of getting killed and learning things. If you have not played in while the game has been made so much harder. Biggest issue about the area we settled in our dinosaurs that can steal out of your inventory and destroy what they get. We have lost quite a lot of taming supplies including way too many tranq darts.

I’m level 70 right now trying rush to 74 to get Rex Saddles. That is still going take a few days. Even with me being the primary crafter for saddles, taming supplies, and taking on building projects.

If you where playing on a public server (I'm assuming so since you said ps4) that is going be quite hard. I think I put maybe 300 hours into 2 or 3 public servers before I just gave up and moved on. The alpha tribe on every server raided us daily killing all dinosaurs and taking all our supplies. One point I was even captured by them and they refused to let me out after days of real life time. So I ended up having to delete my character jus to escape and tried to start over again at level 1. I was rather done with public servers after that. Not to mention who wants to wait around 4 to 12 hours to tame 1 dinosaur and spend days collecting all those supplies trying hide them from the alpha tribe on that server.

If you are going try again on PC I would wait for a sale. They are still charging at least here triple A price. Yet they have sales quite often.

Oh my, you wrote whole post in the comment!

We were playing on private server. I tried the public ones, but a man doesn't have a chance there and your experience confirmed it. The capturing sound so crazy. I see that public servers are full of bullies.

At first we played without any custom settings and it was quite hard to get somewhere. We collected all wood at our place and needed to move on, but the death of my bf's flyer and losing a lot of stuff with it was the last drop and we quit playing. Well, he quit. I'm not such a hothead like him.

A few months ago we wanted to start again with brand new server with improvements but I just didn't want to start from nothing again. We should improve our old server and continue there. I don't know what level we had, but I think it was 30-40.

Once you start learning the different dinosaurs and all there uses you tend to really start enjoying the game. A trike is a good little start to help farm more narcoberrys while you gear up and get into better things.

For a while we find having a crossbow for hunting with stone arrows or taming using tranquilizer arrow to be great. Once you move beyond that it is a massive grind to gather resources. I think the darts we now use have 15 narcoberrys each with a whole host of other items required. Some of the stuff we take down can use 30-50+ of them as well.

You can also mess with harvesting rate a tad as well. The one I'm on feels like it’s either normal or just 2x. I still get that feeling of accomplishment when doing something. So I'm rather ok with it being that low. 10x would be wonderful but a little to much. It would have saved quite a fair amount of time.
