This panting is, according to the length of the process, the complete opposition of the Reflections of the Flow. While Reflections hides a few dozen images beneath its surface, here it is all done in almost a single layer.
Underpainting did not cover the canvas completely, I left the surface of the canvas visible. Than while I was painting another canvases, I have literally wiped out the remnants of colors on this one, not even paying attention to how it looks like. When I finally looked at this painting I was surprised, balance and rhythm were achieved. Only a few smaller color fields should be added, so that it would not all be painted in one or two layers. After that, every further work was redundant.
I made 70% of this work using coincidence, and 30% using a conscious decision. With conscious intention I was working at the very beginning when I chose the color and the way of underpainting, and at the end, for the final touch. It is not coincidence either that I’m able to see that some work is over, that it has rhythm, orientation, contrast etc.; that it is vivid. And that ability is created by learning and experience.
Any further work would take it in another direction. This time I decided to stop, leaving it like this, spontaneously refreshing.
Much of the surface of the canvas remained visible. When I deliberately tried to achieve that, I have never succeed, eventually the painting would have many layers. Now when I did not intend to do it at all nor did expected it, I managed to achieve it. I would like to make more paintings in such an intuitive way, without many layers of color!
